about five to six hours if you keep power low and brightness down, which is fine for a train ride or a morning of emails. I had a rocky start — mine arrived as a refurbished unit and needed a reset because of odd wake-ups and a bit of dust behind the camera; another replacement had missing bits. That was annoying and involved emails and waiting, but in the end the company sent a replacement keyboard and I sorted the OS myself. It took patience, and not everyone will want that hassle. Once it was sorted, the thing ran clean and powerful; even demanding games handled well at higher wattages. So yeah, mixed service and a few design quirks like dust gathering in vents, but the hardware feels solid and I’m actually glad I kept at it. If you’re ready to tinker a bit, it’s worth a shot. If you want perfect out-of-the-box, maybe buy from a big retailer instead.
A useful idea, badly executed
I bought the ONEXGPU Lite hoping to give my handheld and laptop a bit more graphical muscle for work and a bit of light gaming in the evenings. Physically it feels alright — compact, a bit plasticky but solid enough in the hand — so I had some expectations that it would at least be plug-and-play. In practice it never even showed up on any of my USB4 hosts. I tried it on my ROG Xbox Ally X and a separate USB4 laptop; neither ever enumerated the unit in Device Manager, no external GPU appeared under Display Adapters and there was no PCIe tunnelling. No drivers could be applied simply because the hardware link never established. That made it clear to me it was a hardware-level problem rather than a software tweak I could fix at home. I use devices like this for quick on-the-go editing sessions and for gaming when I’m away from my desk, so the promise of broad USB4 compatibility was important. The product page and checkout gave no hint that popular handhelds might be excluded, which caught me out. Support was… frustrating. They eventually admitted incompatibility with the Ally, but not before asking repeatedly for more “objective proof” — videos, logs, the lot — despite me demonstrating the same failure across multiple machines. At first they pushed back saying it might be the host; later the return was approved as a quality issue, but their shipping instructions implied I’d pay international postage and customs. After I returned the unit and they inspected it, they even tried to deduct money for a promotional case that was never listed as paid or mentioned when I sent the item back. It took a lot of chasing and documentation to get a refund, which I did receive in the end. If you’re considering this, don’t assume universal USB4 compatibility and be prepared to keep screenshots, videos and receipts. It’s a neat idea and feels nice physically, but the real-world compatibility and support let it down.
