A sensible outcome after a long wait

The SSD was the useful bit here, but the way PcHub handled the delay mattered more in the end. The first parcel disappeared into the usual COVID-era postal black hole and, after 75 days, I had more or less written it off. I have had worse experiences with other parts suppliers, where getting a reply is half the battle. PcHub agreed to send another drive by DHL, with proper tracking, and that one turned up within a week. Then, rather inconveniently but not really anyone’s fault, the original SSD arrived as well. I expected to be charged again in full because that had been discussed, but they only asked for a small token amount. So I now have a spare drive in a drawer. Not ideal timing, obviously, but handled fairly and without fuss.

The fan was fine, the journey was not

What bothered me most was not even the fact that the laptop fan took longer than expected. Things go out of stock, stock systems are never perfect, and I can live with that. It was the lack of clear information once I had paid extra for express delivery that made the whole purchase feel unnecessarily stressful. I ordered a replacement CPU fan for an Asus K401 that I use almost every day for work, emails, banking, watching the odd programme in the evening, that sort of thing. The original fan had started making a rattly, scraping noise whenever the laptop warmed up. At first I ignored it, as you do, but it got to the point where I was worried it would stop altogether and leave me without a usable machine during the week.
