I pick up the thread somewhere in the middle of the mess — phone propped between shoulder and ear, boarding passes on the table, and my head full of that dull, draining worry you carry when you’ve booked travel for something important. I was meant to be on the ship because I’d arranged the trip around my mum’s operation; it wasn’t a holiday in the usual sense, it was something that mattered. Flights got cancelled because of airspace problems in the Caribbean (real emergency situation), so we couldn’t get there. That’s fair — storms and restricted airspace happen — but what I didn’t expect was the way the company handled, or rather didn’t handle, the fallout.
