I was already two weeks in when I stopped counting the calls. The cooker turned up and simply wouldn't power up, so straight away it wasn't doing the thing I bought it for — cooking dinners for my daughter. I phoned SMEG, they said they'd pass it on to a servicer, and then days passed. I called back, they told me Goodman Home Services had taken the job; Goodman said they had no record and, annoyingly, don't even cover my postcode. I waited, I chased, I was passed around a bit, and yes it felt like no one knew who actually owned the problem. The one detail that mattered — getting someone to the house — finally happened after I pushed repeatedly and emailed, not because the process was smooth but because I wouldn't drop it. A local engineer turned up, diagnosed a faulty control module and swapped it out within a couple of hours. It's not elegant, and the delay was far too long for something over two grand, but the range now works and I'm back to making meals every evening. So, sceptical at first, grudgingly satisfied in the end, though I'd expect better coordination for the price.
Lovely kit, delivery could be smoother
polite, quick to book an engineer and the issue was sorted without fuss. Installation was competent, the fitters knew what they were doing. Price felt fair for the look and build, but it’s not cheap. My advice: do your homework, ask about delivery slots and ask if they’ll remove old units. Not perfect, but overall I’m pleased — a couple of hiccups, but nothing that spoils the day. Would recommend if you want reliable kit that also looks good.
Mixed feelings about Smeg — mostly good, one big let-down
Funny thing — I didn’t buy into Smeg all at once. A friend tipped me off and I first saw the Dolce & Gabbana kettle in a shop display; that’s what convinced me to try the range. Overall, the appliances feel solid and look lovely in the kitchen. The mini fridge hums away and keeps things cool, the two-slice and four-slice toasters do exactly what you expect, and my red kettle has been perfectly reliable. I’ve had three kettles from them so far, so I do like the design and the heft of the items.
The problem is the D&G kettle. It’s expensive and wrapped in a decorative finish that starts to chip and peel from the heat. I sent photos and asked for a replacement or refund back in March 2024. Since then I’ve had messages saying they’ll send one when they get stock, and offers to swap it for a blue one — which I don’t want, because the original matched our kitchen. I’ve been patient, but a year and four months is absurd. I’m grateful the other products have been fine and I still like the styling, but the customer service here ruined the experience. I won’t rush to buy more high-design pieces from them until they sort their aftercare properly.
