Funny start — I was mid-morning, kids out the door, and the iron just slid off the board. Not the dramatic fall you’d expect, but enough to make me stop and think “oh no, not this again”. I’d been dithering before buying — £300 is a lot for an iron — so I hesitated. The cord felt awkward from day one and did catch a couple of times. The stand snapped once and I rang their support, half expecting the usual “tough luck”. They did say their testing should’ve covered it, which annoyed me, but then offered a 50% discount on a replacement if I ordered through their site. It wasn’t ideal — website prices are higher — but I bit the bullet and bought another model for £215. That one arrived and the steam was weak, so back it went via DPD for inspection. There was some back-and-forth with Royal Mail and timing was messy; I spent a couple of weeks without an iron and that felt silly. In the end a third unit arrived that actually steamed properly and has mostly sorted my morning routine — shirts, school blazers, the odd curtain touch-up. I’m relieved more than ecstatic; I still worry a tad about build quality, they do feel a bit light, but on performance the final one works fine and has eased my doubts from before. Customer service could be faster and more honest, but the product itself, once I got the right one, does the job. Bit of stress, but usable results and I’m cautiously glad I persisted.
Proper wok feel, then a let‑down
high heat, a quick toss, veg still crisp, meat browned just right and it cleaned up with barely any scrubbing. That small, smug satisfaction — dinner tasted like it should and I didn’t have to wrestle with the pan afterwards — I really liked that.
Then things went downhill. After regular use the non‑stick layer started to fail; food began clinging and the surface looked patchy. I contacted Tefal with photos and my receipt expecting the “lifetime” promise to mean something useful. What I got back felt like a script: warnings about using high heat and a tight definition of what they’ll replace. It’s odd — a wok that you’re told not to use on high heat feels a bit pointless, and their guarantee only really covers obvious blistering or peeling, not gradual loss of non‑stick performance.
So, mild praise for the cooking performance while it lasted — I was really happy at first — but disappointed with how the coating behaved and the customer support dance that followed. Would I buy another? Probably not, at least not from this range; better to buy a cheaper wok and accept you’ll replace it, or go for a proper seasoned carbon steel if you want high heat and durability. Useful while it lasted, but not what I hoped long term.
