I started buying these after a rather disappointing run with flimsy cardboard puzzles, and the difference is obvious straight away. The wooden pieces feel properly made, and there’s even that faint wood smell when you open the bag – oddly, that’s become part of the ritual for me. I usually choose the 250-piece versions because I want something I can finish on a quiet evening rather than leave across the dining table for days. The Christmas designs are especially nice, though the sturdy boxes are almost too good to put away. My one real gripe is the price. I tend to wait for a sale, which means I’ve skipped a few designs I liked. A bigger reference picture would help too, particularly with busy artwork.
Good pieces, poor reference image
blue writing over blue sections is hard to read, especially on the smaller pieces. We ended up using a magnifying glass, which feels a bit daft for a puzzle cover. A larger reference sheet, or clearer contrast in the printing, would sort most of it.
Birthday puzzle let-down
I opened the jigsaw on my birthday morning and my first thought was “that’s not the photo I know” — the cottage garden looked duller and flatter than the upload. I started piecing it together that same day; the pieces do click well and the box/board were solid, which was a bit of a surprise. I contacted customer service and they asked for photos — fair enough — but their replies felt a bit canned and we kept going round in circles while I tried to explain how the camera enhances the picture. Ordering was easy and delivery arrived on time, so not everything was bad. Overall I’m disappointed with the print and the CS handling, but it did look nicer from across the room, oddly enough.
Dinner-table puzzle moment
Halfway through the roast someone nudged the crackers into the centre of the table and, before we knew it, plates were half-full and pieces were everywhere. We handed out twelve small puzzle packs and people just started fitting bits together while still chewing — kids, cousins, my mum and my niece all leaning in. The exact second I felt proper satisfied was when my eleven-year-old great-nephew and my thirty-something niece high-fived over a stubborn corner that finally slotted in; that tiny shared triumph did it for me. Normally these are our cheap evening something-to-do after tea on the sofa, a way to wind down on dull weekdays, but at Christmas they turned into a full-on communal thing. I like the odd shapes — they make you slow down and laugh at your own daft guesses. It left us with a small, warm memory rather than a pile of stuff to hide away.
Unexpectedly hooked
I'm completely hooked on this Wentworth jigsaw — more than I expected. It starts off as a quick experiment and suddenly I'm sat there for hours, happily frowning. The pieces are proper oddballs — not just different shapes but different sizes too — so my usual trick of sorting the edges first went out the window. I tried it, thought "that'll help", nope, rubbish plan, laugh at me. There's a cheeky sense that the maker had fun designing it; I can almost hear a little mischievous chuckle when a tricky bit finally slots in. It's on the pricey side, sure, but if you measure it as hours of proper absorbed fun, it's good value. The scent people moan about? I like it — woodsy, nostalgic, whatever — but fair enough if others don't. Pieces feel solid and satisfying, no false fits yet. My tip: don't be too tidy, embrace the chaos, and have patience. Honestly, a lovely, slightly maddening experience — in a good way.
Gift mix-up and loose jigsaw pieces
no gift options, slow delivery, that sort of thing. Turns out some of that worry was spot on, and some of it wasn’t, so here’s how it went in plain terms.
A puzzlingly good fix
the wood, the printing, the feel of the pieces — all very satisfying. There was one hitch, a single piece gone missing, which I suppose happens. Slightly annoying, but not the end of the world.
Customer service handled that really well. I emailed them, got a prompt, polite reply and a choice: swap the whole thing or send the missing piece. I chose the latter. It took a couple of weeks — yes, a couple — but the replacement arrived neatly packed in its own small box, tissue inside, tidy. Opening it actually felt like unwrapping something thoughtful; I was surprised, genuinely. The new piece slotted in perfectly, like nothing had happened.
So overall I'm content. A few niggles (site navigation, postage, wait time) but the product quality and the way they fixed the problem redeemed it. Mildly critical but honest: I’d buy again, though maybe not in a hurry.
