What annoyed me most was how little was actually checked. I paid £200 for an urgent leak visit, but the plumber never removed the bath panel or inspected the toilet and sink waste pipes. He glanced at the area, blamed the grout, and left it there. The following day I sorted the leak myself with a bit of silicone, which honestly felt like a basic fix that should have taken minutes. I accept a call-out fee when proper work is done, no problem. But paying that amount for such a limited inspection, then being refused any refund, doesn’t sit right. I’d ask exactly what checks are included before booking.
Relieved I found someone else
I wouldn’t use this company again, honestly, although the independent engineer who eventually helped was brilliant. I called them when the boiler started playing up and, after a very short visit, was quoted £154 for the call-out. That already felt steep, and things got worse when I was told a replacement part would be £540, despite the part itself apparently costing around £75. I cancelled and found a local lad instead. He did a quick temporary repair, came back the following day on his way home, and actually tracked down the fault. Bit of a mess, really, but I was relieved someone took the time to help. I’m now trying to get the call-out fee back.
Don’t bother with them
find someone local you trust, and if you do use these, get everything in writing.
Quick fix, mostly good
they sorted it out and I'm relieved, but there were a couple of tiny blips. Needed the new boiler because the old one had been dropping out for weeks and with two kids and working from home it was getting ridiculous. Booked over the phone, staff were polite and the engineers arrived early, worked efficiently and tidied up — lovely to see. There was a bit of paperwork confusion and one of the follow-up timings was off, but they rang to check I was happy which mattered. Price felt fair in this climate, not cheapest but reasonable. Overall grateful — would use them again, just expect a small bit of admin fuss.
Cold house after a rushed fix
I paid £150 upfront because we’d run out of hot water in the middle of a cold spell and the boiler had started dripping. The first fitter turned up, banged at the unit with a spanner, raised the system pressure and left saying it needed lots of parts. He didn’t fit anything obvious and we were left a week with no heating. I called repeatedly and got told they couldn’t contact him and parts weren’t available. Desperate, I agreed to pay another quoted £400 for a return visit and parts, thinking that would sort the pump problem. A week later a different engineer fitted a diaphragm kit and a microswitch — parts that cost about £20. The pump kept failing soon after, so most of what I paid bought little more than phone calls and a small kit. I asked for an itemised bill and breakdown; apparently they ‘don’t do’ that. Frustrating, feels like poor value and poor follow-through.
Fast, helpful and mostly hassle-free
the invoice layout confused me at first and I had to phone for clarification, which was handled well but could've been smoother. Also, a bit of dust in the hall afterwards that I had to sweep up — nothing major, more an observation. Overall I'm grateful it went so well and relieved it wasn't a faff. I will recommend Homeheat to friends and family when boilers come up, and I already have told a couple of neighbours about them. Fair, competent and human — with a tiny room for polish.
