Nearly didn't send it
Funny thing — I nearly chickened out before posting my S21. I had a bad feeling because of other companies who mark things down unfairly, so I took loads of high-res photos first. They came back with a drastically lower valuation, saying the screen had heavy scratches. I pushed back, emailed the photos, asked for a written report and a complaints contact — kept getting the same canned reply and no proper paperwork. That was frustrating. On the upside, the phone itself was returned to me in the same condition I sent it, which was a relief and a bit of a surprise. So my worry about the device being damaged vanished, even if the value dispute never really got resolved. If you’re picky and like evidence, take pictures and expect to chase them. For clarity and decent customer handling, other firms I’ve used were better.
Trust issues after a simple trade-in
I won't be using them again. I first spotted Clove on a price‑comparison site and even tipped a colleague about the decent rates, so I expected a straightforward swap. I sent a mint iPhone 15 Pro Max that the phone itself reported as 91% battery health — clearly above their 85% minimum — and it arrived in the condition I described. That part was fine, actually a bit better than I thought, which was a surprise. The problem was the valuation: they reduced the offer citing their diagnostics, and when I asked for specifics they only gave a brief, generic reply saying their software disagreed with the OS reading. No report, no screenshots, nothing that explained why 91% was suddenly unacceptable. They effectively moved the goalposts without evidence. Dry, factual: a company quoting a minimum should either show how they measure it or be clearer in the quote. If you’re considering them, ask for a battery report up front. I won’t recommend them anymore; the lack of transparency matters as much as price.

The replacement felt ok for a bit but then the same sort of jitter started again — flicker, rogue taps, things stalling — not great when you depend on it for quick snaps. By that point we’d run out of patience and grabbed one from BackMarket instead. I posted the second phone back to the original seller, with photos taken just before packing, and asked for our cash since we’d lost confidence. What followed was a long, pointed email saying the screen was cracked and implying we’d damaged it ourselves. They didn’t open a claim with the courier or really seem interested in the evidence I’d sent. Instead they boxed the phone back to me as if that settled it. In the end I sold it cheaply on eBay rather than argue for hours; not worth the hassle. It’s a shame because the phones felt fine in the hand apart from the screen problems, but the whole return process and the tone from support left a bad taste. I’ll tell people to look elsewhere next time.
