adding photos, reposting things, replying to a message now and then. You get into a rhythm with a site like that, you know where everything sits, which bits need updating. So imagine my surprise when I went on there the other day and both her account and her dad’s page had vanished. Just gone. Even all the comments she’d left on my own dad’s memorial were missing. That hit harder than I expected; it felt like someone had swept away little pieces of her routine, small things that mattered to me and our family.
I didn’t get any heads-up. No email, no notice in the account, nothing. I contacted support and the reply I got basically said that one of the children had requested deletion. Fair enough if that’s the family’s wish, but how did they check? I was the administrator — the husband, the person who’d actually been managing the pages — and nobody asked me a single question before taking everything down. It feels careless. I mean, in other services I’ve used, there’s at least a verification step: call the admin, ask for ID, something. I’ve had experiences with other memorial sites where they were slow but at least they double-checked. This wasn’t like that.
They told me I could recreate the memorial for my father-in-law, but I’d have to start over and pay again. So not only do I lose all the memories and comments she’d left, I’m expected to hand over money to put them back, if I can even remember every little post. Support later said the account was transferred to the daughter who then deleted it. Okay, but why transfer without contacting the existing admin? It feels like they prioritised one family member’s claim over the person actually looking after the pages.
I’m not after drama. I’m just saying: for a site that’s meant to protect memories, their process felt flimsy and, frankly, disrespectful. The emotional sting is there — it’s more than files on a server. I don’t think they handled it well, and I’d expect better checks and clearer communication. If they genuinely cared about families, they’d restore the material and sort out who should administer things with a proper, documented process. As it stands, I’m left rebuilding and trying to make sense of what was lost.
