Not what I hoped for, but still usable

one of the two cards was just an empty envelope. Weird. The other actually had the cards inside, a Christmas and a birthday together (bit convenient, both in the same week), but whoever handled them had obviously opened them and nicked the money. So yeah, frustrating. On the plus side, delivery itself was prompt enough — the attempt was made and I got the notification, which meant I wasn’t left wondering where things were. That was handy, and I’ll give them credit for at least leaving something behind rather than vanishing into thin air. Still, the fact that cash was removed is a proper sting. It’s not like it was lost or shredded; it was taken, and the paperwork that came with the bag doesn’t offer any real redress. That’s the bit that grates: you feel kind of powerless, and it makes you rethink how you send things. My tip to others — don’t send cash in plain envelopes, use signed-for or tracked services, or go electronic if you can. I’ll probably use a different method next time even though the basic delivery speed was fine. So, not a total disaster, and parts of the service work well, but do be cautious — there’s room for improvement and a more sensible compensation policy would help. Overall, mixed feelings: pleased with the quick attempt and the clear note, annoyed and worried about the opened mail and missing money. If Royal Mail tightened up how sealed items are handled, I’d be a lot happier.

    Not worth the gamble

I wouldn't trust my local deliveries after this. I ordered a tracked parcel and within a week of trying to sort it out I ended up more frustrated than I thought possible. I’ve used Royal Mail on and off for years and the first impression this time was fine — notification, estimated day, all that — but it went downhill fast. The parcel was marked as delivered by email while I was still on the phone to customer services, and their tracking even showed a photo of the item allegedly on my doorstep. Problem is, there was no parcel. I have a small garden gate and, oddly, later footage from a camera on my property clearly shows the postie leaving the gate open. That was an unexpected bit of clarity; at least I had evidence to show that something odd happened. I phoned multiple times, each call meaning a long wait and the same outcome: “we’ll look into it.” No apology, no resolution. They told me they were waiting for the delivery office manager to respond, then at one point claimed the manager had spoken to them and still they asked if I’d checked my doorstep — despite never having left the house since the delivery window. Three times customer services put the phone down, three times I was told someone would get in touch within 48 hours. That didn’t happen. So, why the low score: poor follow-up, inconsistent answers, lack of accountability. Why the slightly less bleak picture than complete abandonment: the photo and my own camera footage meant I could prove something happened, which helped me keep pushing. If you care about parcels being handled properly, be prepared to chase relentlessly and to use any camera evidence you can. I’m still waiting for a clear answer.
