The most romantic and beautiful experience with these exotic cottages. I love this place, I usually go for the solo experience, writing my novel for it. I loved the cottages they offer, I chose for more silent and tranquil spots. Really love to write and spend quality time there. They have luxury properties, lavish, environmental-friendly and great.
This is a good location and a spacious/warm property.
Sadly the kitchen equipment was seriously pared down (due to covid apparently), and some of what was there was still dirty from previous guests. Cracked glasses had been left in the cabinet, and some of the lightbulbs in different rooms had not been replaced before we arrived.
We found an old biscuit under one sofa, and there were several cobwebs and spiders in residence on the day we arrived. The tumble dryer filter had the previous guests' fluff and hair in it. This was despite a supposed "deep clean" pre-let due to covid which meant a delayed 5pm access time and a requirement to vacate by 9am.
Other than the master bedroom the beds have sprung mattresses which are too far past their best and left our daughter spending the last few nights on the floor. One of the two sofas sags so badly it is difficult for two people to sit comfortably on it. The bicycles (which we had indicated we intended using during our stay) had e.g. flat tyres, slipping gears, and in truth were in serious need of a service.
We stayed here in October so put the gas fire on. When lighting it there was always a ball of gas which blew out and caught the back of my hand the first time. I have grown up with open and gas fires so am naturally wary, but this fire could easily badly burn someone.
We won't be using Toad Hall agency in future as their approach to constructive criticism is to deflect any responsibility for problems and blame everyone else including the owners and guests.
If you do stay anywhere via Toad Hall, make sure you notify them immediately of each, any and all problems - even if it is just a blown lightbulb or a dirty pan. They will otherwise hide behind their small print which requires you to notify them of issues as soon as you find them.
Due to covid meaning nobody should be entering the property during our stay, I spent £10 on three replacement light bulbs as there were no spares of the correct type to be found in the property (loads of the wrong type though).
I explained this to the agency along with my other comments and their response was there were spares locked away in the cleaners cupboard, and they could have arranged for someone to deal with the other issues during our stay if we had told them. I'm really not sure how they reconcile this to the covid safety approach, and to be honest several of the deficiencies should have been picked up on the pre-let check.
We had a week at this house in July. The communications prior to arriving even in view of Covid were poor. Trying to ring is impossible. But we got there! The house is in a lovely spot and the two nearby restaurants are both amazing - Britannia and The Cricket. We were advised that we couldn't check in until 5 because of the Covid Deep Clean. We had previously been advised that we couldn't have cleaners in during the week because of covid so we were obviously expecting a high level of cleanliness! What a hope!! I won't go into ALL the issues BUT the smell in the downstairs bathroom was awful and on looking at the toilet it was filthy and the cloth around it when we wiped it was YELLOW! Yukkkk! The water dispenser in the fridge was covered in mould! The glasses and crockery in the cupboards other than the front row were very dusty. Every lamp, bed surround and other surface was very dusty and even grimy. All the corners in every room were dusty. The vacuum cleaner was soooo dirty it was churning out dust when we used it and we actually emptied it somewhat so we could use it. DOUBLE YUKKKK!! I expected some sort of redress or acceptance of responsibility from THC. However virtually all I got was an email blaming the cleaning company - unaptly named Superior Cleaning!! They offered a re clean of the house but as I had an elderly immobile lady and a disabled person with us it was a bit impossible as we would have had to go out for the day while this happened. Fortunately I took cleaning products and when we left the house was considerably cleaner than when we arrived! However I wasn't expecting dirt, dust and grime after supposedly a house had been deep cleaned and particularly bearing in mind the cost. Had we been offered a sincere apology I might have accepted it but the brush off style emails were really unacceptable. Had I been the property manager I would have gone to the property in person. I have been offered a discount off booking for next year. No figures in mind but having paid nearly £3500 for this year I'm not overly tempted as their standards don't seem to match any of mine. We have previously used two other companies and both have offered a far superior service in every way. I cant see us booking with THC again which is a shame as they seem to have the market cornered in that area.
I understand that these are difficult times for holiday companies but the service so far has been very poor. I had an email back in June to say that my holiday for my family had been cancelled and that I could have a refund. Once I asked for a refund - which they offered - I have not heard anything since. There is no answer from the listed number when you call and no one has emailed a reply to me other than to say they have had a lot of queries to answer and they will get back to me as soon as. That was three weeks ago. Very poor service considering !
