I LOVE THEIR COTTAGES, ITS A ESCAPE
Holiday cottages are a great ecscape and I all the time chose sykes for this. they have 8000 cottages around the world. never disapoints you.

It is incredibly rare for me to leave a negative review, I always try to be balanced, however, for Sykes I will make an exception. If it were possible to leave zero stars I would. As a birthday treat for my wife I booked a 3 night star at Ellen Cottage in Burford, (Cotswolds). This was not a cheap weekend break, and with both my wife and I working for the NHS we were looking forward to a short break away, which we hadn’t been able to do for over a year. Everything looked clean and as expected on check-in at 6pm, but on returning from getting dinner we noticed pet hairs all over the bedding and duvet in the master bedroom. None of the emergency contact numbers worked, so we had to use what we could from other beds, even though they didn’t fit, which led to an uncomfortable night’s sleep. The next day we contacted Sykes who said they would get housekeeping out to put this right. As we were out for the day, and not able to easily get back to the cottage we agreed they would come round at 5pm. After a number of calls chasing, housekeeping finally arrived at around 6:30pm. The girl who came to the door saying she was from housekeeping was incredibly rude to my wife, saying she did come here for this, and actually laughed at my wife when she was explaining how annoyed she was with the situation, and that it had spoilt our trip. We then complained to Sykes who lodged a complaint and said they would look into it. To cut a long story short Sykes refused to accept responsibility for the state of the bedding, blaming the owner, who they said the cleaners worked for and advised us to contact the police to take our complaint further if we wished, at this point I almost lost the will to live, their suggestion being so ridiculous. They have now refused to look into it any further have closed our complaint without any compensation. I will never use Sykes, of any of their affiliated organisations again, and I strongly suggest others don’t either.
Accommodation
First time we have booked a property with Sykes and will never use again. Cleanliness of the property was very poor and not to an acceptable standard , additional cleaning routines for Covid were totally disregarded. Internal decoration poor , the owner clearly has not updated/redecorated in 10+ years . Also concerns re health and safety, electrics not inspected , damaged pane of glass not repaired . Fire safety only one smoke alarm (battery?) no heat detector in kitchen, property was timber structure and had an open fire, sofas not compliant with regulations. Outside rear arears of property unkempt, outbuildings in poor condition , ... left in bags , issues with vermin. Concerns that Sykes have been withholding negative reviews for this property , clearly no recent inspection of the property. Complaint raised with Sykes , but no response.
Holiday cottage
I've booked through Sykes for years. Something has gone wrong at Sykes and I now do not feel they can be trusted. This is now a £350m company owned by venture capital and doesn't it show.
Booked accommodation, but they informed me the changeover day had been changed by the owner. I rebooked alternative accommodation, only to be told the owner had now changed it back and as such I was not liable for a refund. They admitted they miscommunicated in writing, but no refund. Hi yes nice cottage needs hand rails up stairs not comfortable seating in living area bathroom shower needs hand rails.not suitable for people who have disability arms or legs. Wish to eat out need car.long distance travel to local shops 5miles .whiteway road 9miles to town .very creaky if moves about .stars out of 3.75.
Holiday cottages
Have had years of very good bookings with sykes but this year I have been falsely accused of what looks like a cigarette burn to a sofa some weeks after my stay. Very upsetting that sykes pursue their non smoking customers with with claims from their suppliers and refuse to investigate the matter on behalf of their customer. Worrying too what liability you could be accused of after your holiday!
Holiday let
Customer Support and Customer Relations a complete waste of time. Over priced and under deliver on customer service. DO NOT USE too many things to mention just appalling.
3 Night Break
AWFUL SERVICE - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
I am absolutely APPALLED by the service provided by Sykes and I would not recommend anyone to use them.
The double booked a property, took our payment and sent a confirmation Email, if it wasn't for us reconfirming just days before the stay, we would have turned up and wouldn't have had anywhere to stay.
We had family travelling from all over the UK, with travel booked.
They refunded us 2 days before our booking, which has left us unable to find alternate accommodation.
They had us on hold for over 3 hours in total and were unempathetic at the situation that they had caused.
They have offered no resolution and believe that we should be happy that they informed us (Even though we chased this and caused them to see the double booking) and that we have received a full refund 2 days before we were due to travel.
This has been an absolutely awful experience for my pregnant fiancee and I, in what is already a very stressful time.Holiday cottage
Do not use Sykes. They appear to value money in the bank above any
kind of customer satisfaction. You pay them money & they keep it.

We used to regularly book 2 holidays a year through Sykes, but noticed in the past few years they havecbeen going downhill. The cottages do not live up to the advertsvon their website, if anything goes wrong, Sykes do not want to know, and this recent 'lockdown' nonsense has really shown them in their true light. They refuse to give refunds on booked holidays, even though its the government that has declared no travel, they are stealing the whole balance of the holiday from customer's banks if the customer doesn't want to rebook gor next year. The cottage owners are happy to refund, but Sykes is keeping those refunds and not passing them on to the customer. Most people are being forced into moving their holiday to next year, just so they do not have a huge deposit stolen from them. Even those who do move theirvholiday to next are having to pay MORE booking fees, and the 'new' cost if the holidays have been vastly increased by hundreds of pounds! Sykes are being inundated with negative reviews on trust pilot, butbinstead of sorting out their customer's concerns, they are offsetting each negative review with a flurry of fake positives posted by themselves. They are also reporting, and getting removed, many of the negative reviews in order to maintain a healthy looking score. Be aware - the company that owns Sykes, also owns trust pilot - how convenient!
Holiday booking in Cornwall
ZERO STARS......AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Shody money grabbing behaviour around refusing to give refunds for bookings which cannot be fulfilled due to corona virus even when home owners have agreed a refund. Check out similar posts on trustpilot and facebook. Same goes for the useless travel insurance from Towergate which they sell on their site. Disgusting way to treat customers.
