We shared an annexe without knowing
The booking process went well at first, but then we discovered that we were sharing an annexe with another family for our stay. Although the holiday let was nice, it was awkward having strangers so close to our bedroom and bathroom without any warning. We told them how we felt but got no response, and only good reviews are shown on the website.
Holiday cottage booking
The website was really tricky to use, but luckily the customer service team were amazing. They made sure to keep us in the loop and give us detailed instructions as we booked our stay. Afterwards, we shared some suggestions for how they could do better, and they got back to us right away to say thanks. It's so much better chatting with actual humans on the phone rather than a boring chatbot. I'll definitely think about using this service again, given how great my whole experience was.
Cancelled last minute
I reserved a cottage for a holiday and was really looking forward to my stay there. But less than two weeks before I was meant to check in, they cancelled on me! I was really upset because I had already made plans, and now I had to rush to find somewhere else to stay. And as if that wasn't bad enough, they didn't offer me any compensation or help in finding another place to stay. Really not cool at all.
Cottage rental experience
This company is a total disaster, they just don't seem to listen to any feedback or problems you raise. It feels like all they care about is getting your money, and then they don't want to deal with any issues that come up. The lack of care and attention to detail is really bad, with properties not being checked properly before guests come in. They seem to believe that mould, damp, and dirt can be easily sorted with a quick clean, but these are serious issues that can't be fixed so easily.
Week-long holiday booking
The customer service we received was absolutely terrible. We had booked a week-long holiday in January for September, and after paying the balance as requested, we suddenly received an email saying our reservation had been cancelled. We were shocked and disappointed at the lack of communication and professionalism - no phone call or personal explanation was given. This left us in a difficult situation trying to find another booking, especially with our large dog in tow. If you're looking for reliable service, it's best to avoid this place.
Booked a cottage in Dittisham
So, we had booked this really lovely cottage in Dittisham, didn't we? We were hoping for a quiet and peaceful stay, but can you believe it? Right across from us, there was this huge construction site going on. The noise was unbearable, and those massive trucks were always in the way. Toad Hall Cottages acted like they had no idea, when really they should have been fully aware of what was happening. They didn't even apologise or offer us anything to make up for it. Not cool at all. A holiday is meant to be relaxing, not chaotic. And on top of all that, they wouldn't let us leave a review of the place! How sneaky is that, eh? Definitely won't be using their services again when there are much better options available.
Stay at Torcross cottage with 4 dogs
My family and I stayed at a lovely Torcross cottage with our four dogs for a week. Everything seemed fine until we tried to book again, but we were turned down because the cleaner said there was thick black hair left behind. We made sure to clean the entire place thoroughly, from vacuuming to scrubbing the bathrooms and even changing the bed linens. It was really disheartening and annoying to hear this, especially since we paid extra for bringing our dogs and expected a bit of hair to be left behind.
To add to our disappointment, we also had to clean up some empty beer bottles, dead bugs, and cobwebs when we arrived. The patio area was quite dirty as well, considering how much we paid for the property. I must say, it's a nice place but definitely not worth the price if we have to do such a deep clean before we leave.Holiday cottage rental in Cornwall
My wife and I had a really terrible time when we booked a week-long stay at a cottage in Cornwall through this company. When we arrived, we were hit with a strong smell of mould that seemed to be all over the place. We tried to talk to the owners about it, but they were not helpful at all and seemed to just ignore us. It was obvious that they knew about the damp problem because they had dehumidifiers and washable wallpaper everywhere.
We told the rental agency about it, but they didn't seem to care and said they couldn't smell anything or see any mould. It felt like they were only interested in looking after themselves and not us as customers. We tried to sort things out with our credit card company and travel insurance, but it was no use - we couldn't get any compensation.
In the end, our experience with this company and property was really disappointing and could have even been bad for our health.Stay at leaking property
We stayed at a property that had a leaky bath and shower, so we couldn't use it, which was a bit annoying. The cottage had a damp smell, not great, and there were white spots on the TV that made it hard to watch. They did give us a smaller TV to use instead and told us to leave the doors open for the heating to work properly. They also wanted to do an electricity check during our holiday, but we said no thanks to that. It was obvious that the property hadn't been checked thoroughly before we arrived, and we felt like we should have been offered another place to stay or a refund.
Stay in Torcross Cottage
My stay at a cottage in Torcross with Toad Hall Cottages was a bit of a let-down. Although the cottage itself was nice, there were some issues that needed sorting out. I mentioned these in my review, but it was swiftly removed by the company. When I tried to talk to them about it, they just brushed me off, saying they were looking into it. It seems like they only want to show perfect 5-star reviews and don't want to deal with any real feedback. It's been two weeks since I raised my concerns and I still haven't heard anything back. This lack of responsibility and openness is really disappointing, and has put me off using their services again.
Bella Nites in Lyme Regis
We had a lovely stay at a place called Bella Nites in Lyme Regis. It was a cosy bungalow that had all the comforts we needed. The welcome hamper was a nice surprise and made us feel really at home. The conservatory was a fantastic place to unwind and take in the views. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and we would definitely return in the future.
Bank holiday stay booking
I had a really disappointing experience with this company when I booked a cottage for a bank holiday stay. I was surprised to see that the property had hardly any privacy because the windows opened onto communal passageways. This lack of privacy made our stay really uncomfortable and unsettling as we felt like we had no personal space. Even though we had issues, the owner didn't seem willing to give us a refund or try to make things better. I don't think I would suggest booking with this company if you value privacy and comfort.
Holiday cottage booking
I'm really disappointed with the customer service from this company. I booked a holiday cottage with them, and it was a complete nightmare. The cottage was nothing like they described, with cleanliness and promised amenities missing. When I tried to talk to the company about my concerns, they didn't even bother to respond. It's been more than a month now, and they still haven't addressed my complaint. This lack of communication and no care for customer satisfaction is just not on. I would definitely recommend others to steer clear of booking with this company if you don't want to waste your money and get ignored.
Summer holiday cottage booking
I've only gone and booked this really cool cottage in Salcombe for the summer, hoping to have the most amazing holiday ever. But then I get a message saying there's construction work happening next door and it might just spoil the whole vibe of my holiday, you know? So the folks at the cottage place were kind enough to offer me a discount or let me cancel for free. I thought, why put up with all that noise and banging when I'm meant to be chilling out? I decided to cancel in the end. Then they found me another place to stay, but it was a bit pricey for my liking. When I mentioned that, they really pulled out all the stops to help me and offered me the same price as my original booking. How amazing is that, eh? I get the feeling they actually care about me and my holiday happiness. I simply can't wait to go and have the most incredible time!
Holiday
I booked "the White House" at Torcross with Toad Hall Cottages. 2 weeks before I am due to start my holiday they sent me an email advising that the house next door is under going major renovation works. At NO point prior to this did they tell me this was the case. Because the house next door is literally metres from my intended holiday property I'm now going to be living on a building site for a week. Lovely and relaxing that, I'd do better on the M25. Toad Hall have behaved shamefully in their fundamental lack of transparency about this issue. They should publish on their website that the works are going on and allow potential customers to make up their own minds BEFORE handing over hard earned cash. Dreadful company, unprofessional. Beware.
SANDPIPER 245
We have just returned from Sandpiper after staying for a very comfortable week. The place was very clean and comfortable. Everything you could want and think of was there. Superb facilities. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable bed.
Hazel and David TibblesBeach Cottage
My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant stay in Devon. I think Toad Hall Cottages provide an outstanding service and I will book with them again. I appreciate loyalty and being able to reach someone when booking a holiday. Also that they have local offices really reassures me.
Booking at Spindrift, Hope Cove
Back in February my wife & I booked a week's holiday at Spindrift in Hope Cove through Toad Hall, commencing 4 Sept.
10 days prior to our start date we received an email from Toad Hall cancelling our holiday due to double booking by the owners, Mr,& Mrs I. Farnworth. It seems that they agreed to let the guests booked for the week before us stay a second week. Toad Hall accepted their excuse that they had forgotten that the guests were there for 2 week and it was all a "silly mistake".(Their words apparently.) They might consider it so but we are left with no holiday and no chance of rebooking anything half decent in the current market.
I appreciate that Toad Hall are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but they have obviously let the owners walk all over them.
I wonder how many people would believe that the owners had truly forgotten that they had rented the cottage out for 2 weeks and suspect that in reality they had accepted a higher offer for an extended stay.
I would advise any prospective guest to be very wary of dealing with these owners.Discussing treatment to customers, sounds like the owners are putting up their prices to compensate for their own losses during lockdown
Church Farmhouse
Amazing time spent in South Devon (near South Milton/Thurlestone).
Property was nicer than looked in pictures on the website.
Service was good too, responded immediately when we had issue.
Was very nice to find a company that had held its prices from one year to the next.Old Home Farm
This is a good location and a spacious/warm property.
Sadly the kitchen equipment was seriously pared down (due to covid apparently), and some of what was there was still dirty from previous guests. Cracked glasses had been left in the cabinet, and some of the lightbulbs in different rooms had not been replaced before we arrived.
We found an old biscuit under one sofa, and there were several cobwebs and spiders in residence on the day we arrived. The tumble dryer filter had the previous guests' fluff and hair in it. This was despite a supposed "deep clean" pre-let due to covid which meant a delayed 5pm access time and a requirement to vacate by 9am.
Other than the master bedroom the beds have sprung mattresses which are too far past their best and left our daughter spending the last few nights on the floor. One of the two sofas sags so badly it is difficult for two people to sit comfortably on it. The bicycles (which we had indicated we intended using during our stay) had e.g. flat tyres, slipping gears, and in truth were in serious need of a service.
We stayed here in October so put the gas fire on. When lighting it there was always a ball of gas which blew out and caught the back of my hand the first time. I have grown up with open and gas fires so am naturally wary, but this fire could easily badly burn someone.
We won't be using Toad Hall agency in future as their approach to constructive criticism is to deflect any responsibility for problems and blame everyone else including the owners and guests.
If you do stay anywhere via Toad Hall, make sure you notify them immediately of each, any and all problems - even if it is just a blown lightbulb or a dirty pan. They will otherwise hide behind their small print which requires you to notify them of issues as soon as you find them.
Due to covid meaning nobody should be entering the property during our stay, I spent £10 on three replacement light bulbs as there were no spares of the correct type to be found in the property (loads of the wrong type though).
I explained this to the agency along with my other comments and their response was there were spares locked away in the cleaners cupboard, and they could have arranged for someone to deal with the other issues during our stay if we had told them. I'm really not sure how they reconcile this to the covid safety approach, and to be honest several of the deficiencies should have been picked up on the pre-let check.
