I’ve been using this travel insurance for years, for weekend breaks and the odd longer trip, so I wasn’t expecting a drama. Then I had to put in a claim and, oh boy, it turned into a proper faff. Loads of back-and-forth, requests for the same bits of paperwork over and over, long waits for replies — you know the sort of thing. At first I was getting really frustrated, thinking I’d picked the cheap option and paid for hassle. The moment it shifted for me was about three weeks in, when after a final, slightly angry email and me sending over the NHS portal printouts again, someone actually checked the notes properly and confirmed the claim would be processed. Not straight away, not perfectly, but it changed from “we’ll get to it maybe” to “we’re dealing with this now.” That instant of being told it was moving felt like a small win — and I’ll admit I was quite glad it didn’t end with me giving up. It’s not a smooth ride, the phone chats can be awkward and I had to repeat myself, but the payout did come eventually and it covered what I needed for the trip disruption. So yeah, still a bit annoyed at the process, but happy it worked out in the end and useful to have when holiday plans go sideways.

a bereavement (for which I had no treatment), a small infected spot and a procedure linked to another condition. To me that's not the same as an ongoing medical condition, and I had already declared HRT — they even charged extra for menopause-related cover. But the small print — or how they phrase questions — matters, and they weren't clear that every GP visit in the previous two years could count against you. The claims process itself was slow and confusing, lots of form-filling and being bounced between teams, and at times I felt they were implying I hadn't been honest which was upsetting. It's not all terrible — the website and confirmation emails were fine and the premiums seemed reasonable — but when it matters most, the cover let me down. I'm left disputing the decision and I'm taking it to the Ombudsman. If you're considering them, read every question carefully, and don't assume common-sense things like bereavement won't be treated as a medical history item.
