read recent reviews, expect to reinforce, and plan a full afternoon with a mate. Not perfect, not pretty in places, but usable — and that’s what I wanted. Slightly annoyed at the initial kit, but pleased it did the job in the end — happy enough to recommend if you go in with realistic expectations and a toolbox.
The shed saga that actually ends well
31 August. I took another day off and even mucked out the tiny alley behind my terrace, strimmed nettles, put on gloves and trousers, basically made a path so the lads wouldn’t get stung. All a bit much for a shed, but I wanted it done properly.
On the day there was dead silence from the company. No ETA, no heads‑up. Later I spotted two people in hi‑vis in my front garden. They were carrying bits and leaning panels against the bay window, right on top of the begonias on my sill. The panels were effectively dumped by the pavement. I opened the door. They said, “we just leave it here.” No knock, no “you in?” Apparently they’d asked the postie if there was a rear entrance; he’d said no, so that was that. I mentioned the alley again — literally one house along — and then, eventually, they agreed to move it round the back. They left without a word. It felt odd and a bit impersonal. Later I found out Forest do contactless deliveries, which would have been useful to know beforehand.
Flat Pack Professionals were booked to assemble on 4 September. This was tricky — last day of the kids’ summer holidays — so I stayed in with the two little ones, waiting. They don’t give a time, which is infuriating, but I called after lunch and eventually they said they’d pop by between three and four. They did turn up. Nice enough lads. They did a quick scan of the parts and then apologised — one piece was faulty and they couldn’t build the shed. So that was another hold‑up. I waited days for a replacement. I tried to track the part using the link I’d been given. The tracking said it had been delivered to Basildon and signed for by me. Not true. Turns out it had been left inside my neighbour’s hallway. No one thought to tell me. I emailed for clarification and chased again on 9 October, asking if Flat Pack Professionals were still waiting for parts. They hadn’t been told the part had actually been delivered.
Eventually, after a few more emails and a fair bit of nagging, the installation team came back and put it together properly on 17 October. When they arrived it took them a day, but they did a tidy job. The shed looks fine now. It’s practical, solid enough, and has made a real difference to our everyday life. I use it every morning for my gardening kit; the kids store their scooters in there, and my bicycle fits in when I manoeuvre it a bit. It keeps the little back yard tidy and it means I’m not tripping over tools on wet days. The company threw in a free keysafe, though I was advised not to use it on the shed as it wasn’t suitable, which was odd but fair enough.
What stuck with me was the lack of clarity about who did what. I thought I was dealing with one company, Sheds Direct, but emails came from different names — Forest, Flat Pack Professionals, the Podfather — and it got confusing. Communication could have been much better. That said, the install team who finally turned up were professional, friendly and apologetic when they couldn’t finish first time due to the faulty part. And now, months on, the shed is used daily and has made life easier, which feels like the main thing. Emotionally I’m relieved more than anything, though a bit exasperated by the runaround. If I did it again I might try a local supplier, but for now I’m pleased with the end result.Long wait, decent cabin — but don’t rely on the seller
standing in the drizzle, staring at a pallet of timber two metres from our back door thinking, “Well, that took its time.” That is the image that stuck with me for weeks. The cabin itself — once it finally turned up and we got it up — is lovely in that honest, piney, slightly resinous way that makes you want to put a mug of tea down and stay a while. But getting to that point was a proper saga, and I’ve a few things to say about both the cabin and the circus around buying it.

Unacceptable delivery location
I ordered a shed for my terrace house and made it clear that they could use next door's garden for delivery. But annoyingly, the delivery driver just plonked the shed on my front drive, leaning some parts against my oil tank. After lots of phone calls, they've finally agreed to take the shed back. Just a heads up - they refuse to deliver to a terrace house garden even if there's a legal walkway through next door.
