Halfway through unpacking I spotted something odd about the booking. My employer gave me a half-price membership and I tried it out — in a few cases the rates are decent. On this trip though I’d chosen a non-refundable hotel rate that ended up costing more than booking direct, and booking direct would have offered free cancellation until the day before. Kinda frustrating, but I'm glad I gave it a go — still worth trying for certain bargains.
