Coach holiday booking
Booking my recent coach holiday was a lovely experience. Right from the start, they kept me in the loop about all the travel details, which put me at ease before my trip.
Wales 4-night break
I've just got back from a lovely 4-night break with my mum in Llandudno. Our coach driver, Dave, was amazing - really friendly, helpful, and knew his stuff. We checked out Portmerrion and took a ride on the Snowdon mountain railway, although the weather meant we couldn't see much from the top. We also popped over to Caernarfon and Conwy castles. The hotel was alright, but our room overlooked the bins out the back which wasn't the best. The food, on the other hand, was delicious and the staff were fantastic.
Coach holiday review
I went on a coach holiday recently and I must say, it was a pretty good experience. Despite a few bumps in the road like long waits at Dover, I really enjoyed the trip. The drivers, Jason and Karl, were brilliant and really looked after us. The hotels we stayed in were alright, but I reckon it would be helpful for passengers to bring smaller bags for overnight stops to make things easier for the drivers. The resort hotel was nice and we didn't have any problems during our stay. The excursions were a bit hit and miss, with the Dali museum being a bit of a letdown. But all in all, it was a successful trip.
Coach holiday experience review
Unfortunately, our recent coach holiday was a bit of a disaster. We had to wait in Dover for ages before finally getting on the ferry a whopping 9 hours late. Then, when we changed drivers in France to Kelvin and Prem, we ended up stuck in Belgium overnight because they couldn't keep going. So, we lost a whole day of our trip. The two drivers didn't seem to get along, with Kelvin being quite patronising towards Prem. It made the atmosphere on the coach tense, with them arguing and complaining about each other. The timings were all over the place too, which just added to the frustration.
But, despite all this, the accommodation and food were actually really good, and we enjoyed the tours. On the way back, we found out last minute that we had to leave at 10 am instead of later in the day, meaning we missed out on more time in Poland. To top it off, there was a problem with the toilet that left us without access for a while, and we didn't have many drinks because of water shortages. Also, Kelvin made a point of mentioning tips, which was unexpected as it hadn't been a thing on our previous Shearings trips. Overall, even though we've had good trips with this company before, this one will stick in our minds for all the wrong reasons.Whitby holiday at Royal Hotel
Our holiday in Whitby was absolutely amazing, especially our stay at the Royal Hotel. The hotel was really comfortable and welcoming, making it the perfect place to explore the beautiful town of Whitby. Our drivers, Chris and Blake, were fantastic - they knew lots, were really friendly, and made the journey so enjoyable. We were really impressed by how professional and helpful they were throughout the trip. It's safe to say that we're already thinking about our next holiday with you guys because our experience was just so unforgettable and fun.
Holiday booking
Booking our holiday was super simple. We were a bit disappointed though, as we couldn't confirm if we'd be getting a ground floor room or a walk-in shower for my grandma. She's quite elderly and struggles with her knees, so it would've been ideal to know in advance. Anyway, we'll just keep our fingers crossed and come up with a plan if necessary.
Booking a holiday
I just booked a holiday and it was amazing! I've been on a few trips with my family before and we always have a great time. When we sorted everything out for next year's trip, the people on the phone were really kind and made sure we had all that we needed. I'm so excited for our next adventure!
Holiday booking
I recently booked a holiday for next year, and it was so easy! Adele was amazing - she ensured everything was perfect and even checked in with me to make sure I was satisfied. Booking over the phone was incredibly simple, and I felt like a VIP throughout the whole process. Thanks to Adele's fantastic customer service, I am now eagerly looking forward to my upcoming holiday!
Self-drive holiday
Our hotel was absolutely fantastic, and the food was delicious! Shearings hooked us up with complimentary parking and even threw in a free bottle of wine from the hotel. It was really classy!
Quick call from Sue
Sue got back to us really quickly and she was so friendly and professional. She gave us all the info we needed to book our holiday to Newquay. It was really exciting chatting with her and organising our trip.
Recent Norfolk tour
I've just come back from a trip to Norfolk and I must say, I was really impressed with the fantastic service I received from the staff, especially considering the challenging situation they had to deal with. When we arrived, there was a problem with our original hotel, but the Shearings staff quickly sorted out alternative accommodation for us at the Nelson Hotel. Nicky and her team really went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and happy throughout our stay. And our driver Gavin was amazing - he not only helped with the logistics of picking up passengers from different hotels each day, but also provided extra support for a friend with a mobility scooter. His cheerful attitude and willingness to help made the trip so much more enjoyable.
Great trip, minor hiccups
The trip itself was really enjoyable, but I did have a few hiccups along the way. Firstly, the single beds in the room were smaller than I had hoped for, only 2’6” instead of the standard 3’. Also, not having any milk in the room for my tea and coffee was a bit of a let down. When it comes to the schedule, visiting Monet's garden was absolutely amazing, however, there were some organisational issues when it came to Versailles. The advice not to buy tickets in advance for the Palace didn’t work out well because they were actually sold out when I got there, causing a bit of a hassle to get in. Despite that, the new coach was really comfy and I’d definitely think about travelling with this company again.
Recent holiday
I've just returned from a trip to Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. The place was absolutely stunning and the drivers, Ann-Marie and Jon, were really nice. However, the hotel was a complete let down! We had to pay more for a single room and all we got was a tiny cupboard. The room and shower were incredibly small, it felt like being in a dollhouse! Not cute at all.
Austria coach trip
I've just come back from a coach trip to Austria with my family. Dave and Kenny, the drivers, were great fun - they kept us entertained the whole way, even when we got stuck in traffic at Dover. The hotel was decent, nothing too fancy but the food was delicious and the staff were friendly. It rained on the last day, but we still managed to have a good time on the day trip. I'd definitely be up for another trip like this with my family.
Coach holiday purchase
On the whole, I was rather disappointed with my coach holiday experience. The service wasn't great, the staff seemed uninterested and inattentive. I felt like I didn't get value for money with what they charged me. The place we stayed in wasn't great either - there wasn't even a walk-in shower like I asked for because of my health issues. And then they hit me with an extra charge for parking, which was just the cherry on top of a really poor trip.
Booking assistance from Adele
I had a question while I was booking my holiday with Shearings, so I asked for someone to call me back to help. Adele called me and was really helpful in fixing the problem I had online. She got everything sorted quickly and efficiently. Adele checked all my details and made sure all my requests were taken care of. She seemed like a really nice young lady!
Relaxing holiday break
I had a brilliant time on my recent holiday break. The weather in Llandudno was surprisingly nice, which made the trip even better. The staff at the hotel were so friendly and welcoming, it really added to the positive vibe of our stay. They were not only really good at their jobs but they also had a great sense of humour, which made chatting to them a pleasure. The food was top-notch, especially the breakfasts and delicious dinners. I loved how comfy my room was and the bed was just perfect for a peaceful night's sleep. The only downside was the limited entertainment options, as Bingo was the only activity offered and not really my cup of tea. As a fan of ballroom and Latin American dancing, I was hoping for more variety. Despite this, I had a laid-back break and would definitely think about staying at The Marine again in the future.
Lake Annecy vacation
Our holiday was an emotional rollercoaster, to be honest. The first couple of days were a nightmare - we didn't get to our hotel until way past midnight. Despite that, the daily trips we went on were enjoyable. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't meet our expectations. Everything shut early so there wasn't much to do in the evenings. Also, the hotel wasn't great for people with mobility issues because of all the steps. The food wasn't great either, and our drivers, Andrew and Neil, were a bit hit and miss. Andrew was friendly, helpful, and chatty, but Neil didn't seem interested and didn't give us much info about the places we went. He kept making pointless stops for a smoke, which was irritating. All in all, it could have been a better experience.
Lake Annecy
My recent coach holiday trip was absolutely awful. Everything started off badly with a detour that had us stuck in traffic for hours. We missed our ferries and ended up arriving at our destination in the dead of night. The drivers had run out of their hours, so we had to stay overnight in some random hotel. The whole journey was a mess - there was no communication or organization. We even missed out on meals and proper rest, making the whole trip a total let down. It was honestly the worst experience I've ever had with holiday coach services.
Coach Holiday
Dublin and the Heart of Ireland Oct 22
I was left alone and vulnerable at 4.30am at the pick-up point as the coach was running late.
The 'Executive' coach had very limited leg room and narrow seats. it was not suitable for a long distance drive. The toilets were not cleaned for the duration of the trip and smelled very bad. The heating was either very hot or very cold.
The drivers had no local knowledge which made the trips out very dull. They seemed disinterested in the paying customers. The trip to Dublin was arbitrarily re-arranged to accommodate the birthday celebration of one driver the night before. As a result the passengers were forced to endure Dublin in a thunderstorm (the only day of the week this occurred, a fact born out by the weather forecast) This enabled them to sleep all afternoon on the coach.
Once back on the coach soaking wet and miserable, we had to wait a further 40 mins at a garage whilst they re-fueled and tried to pay the garage using a Shearings bank card with no funds in it. Since the drivers had 4 hours free time that afternoon I would question why this was done when the 45 seat coach was was full. As a result we were late back for dinner.
The travel times to and from our destinations were heavily increased by a multitude of pick- up points.
The cramped coach was not suitable for anyone who was heavily built or tall. It resembled a school bus. On the journey home the driver spoke for 7-10 mins on his mobile phone, informing his caller the he was "concentrating" on his driving on numerous occasions, but continuing the conversation.
Shearings response to my complaints;
They deal with everything in-house, all drivers are contracted out and the coaches are individually leased. When they called me I spent the best part of an hour confirming my experiences, after which time the customer service rep had a five minute exchange with her manager and I was dismissed. No wonder Shearings went into liquidation! Has Ian Henry of Leger any idea what he has taken on?
