Midway through unpacking I laughed at myself for worrying beforehand — the holiday actually turned out alright. Booking through a third party felt a bit meh (only saved a few quid compared with booking direct) but check-in ran smoothly and that was a relief. The caravan they gave us was supposed to be 'gold plus' — not exactly glamorous, a few basics like washing-up liquid and a sponge were missing and someone hadn't emptied the bathroom bin, which was annoying. We pushed the kids' beds together and found the odd dead fly and a bit of rubbish, so yeah, cleaning could be better. The pedal bikes let us down with a slipped chain and a flat tyre, and the on-site food is on the pricey side as you'd expect. BUT most of the staff were great — genuinely helpful, cheerful and keen to sort things. One receptionist was a bit grumpy, true, yet the climbing instructor was brilliant with the kids, proper top bloke. Having had worse experiences elsewhere, I'm actually glad this one mostly delivered. Left feeling grateful it wasn't a disaster.
Half-unpacked and not impressed
a bra, a couple of knickers, socks and even a pair of leggings. It’s an odd way to discover someone else has been living in your caravan. I moved on to the sofa to sit down and the smell hit me; a strong, stale urine odour coming from the main seating. That made me stop in my tracks. I tested by lifting cushions and the smell was definitely localised to the sofa area, so we bagged the garments and walked straight to reception with photos on my phone.
