Last year my husband & I used "Trusted Housesitters" to look after our home and little cat for 2 weeks. A couple responded from the south of England - we are in NE Scotland. We were all booked up in late January with them for our holiday in June. We met them a week before they were due to arrive at our home in Aberdeen as they were visiting and staying with family there. Everything seemed wonderful. !! They arrived at our home the day before our departure.
We communicated via WhatsApp and I became concerned as they were hardly ever in our home during any of the days - they were constantly away visiting friends or out sightseeing. I became concerned about how neglected our little cat might be. Also our home is quite isolated. On our return home my fears came to light. They had left before we arrived home on the day of our return. Our front door had been left unlocked. Our little cat was nowhere to be seen. The bottom of the bath was left full of dried foam. Cutlery, crockery in the kitchen was covered in watermarks. Our garden and greenhouse had been terrible neglected with lack of water - we have hoses available which we showed them. My house plant pots were full of water - obviously watered the night before. They also watered an artificial plant which looks nothing like real and ruined an antique table belonging to my late parents. They had been in rooms which they weren't required to be in and left furniture moved. I have also discovered personal items missing. Our little cat eventually arrived home hours later but extremely frightened. She was a rescue cat which we had adopted 5 years ago. She had obviously had to fend for herself being shut out all night. She always likes to be in the house at night. This couple used our home as a sleep over for visiting their family instead of looking after our home and little cat. They had also left a lot of their rubbish behind - beer bottles and wine bottles!!!!! for us to clear up. We had a wonderful holiday celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary but ruined by these two very selfish, untidy and totally untrustworthy individuals. I feel very concerned and worried about leaving a stranger/strangers looking after our home again.
Would I shop again? - I'm not sure.
