What a difference experience makes...
Three-way valve and controller replaced very professionally, swiftly, and with no mess, by a very knowledgeable and polite senior 24/7 technician who confirmed that the valve and its controller should have been replaced many years earlier.
Annual service also undertaken at this visit, again highlighting the shortcomings of the previous servicing carried out by the more junior technicians.
Valve and controller had been a perennial 'weakest link' in the system; previous visits by more junior 24/7 and BG technicians only replaced the controller when it was clear that the controller motor was working too hard (then overheating) to open the valve.
In terms of value for money, the 24/7 offering is far superior to BG Homecare. So much so that I've moved my parents from BG to 24/7, saving them hundreds of pounds a year.
Review would have been 5* but for the actions of the more junior technicians who didn't undertake simple checks of the valve's operation and relied on what they believed to be the simple, quick expedient of a new controller.Boiler Service
The engineer that came was polite and informative. Nothing to do with the engineer, but it was disappointing for the original appointment to have been cancelled at 16:30 on the day, having waited in all day. Then had to wait for another month for the service.

Called for Fixing Boiler
I was called by the tenant, that boiler is not working for some reason. Gave a call to helpline, who directly called the tenant and arranged an engineer visit.
Within 3 hours, the engineer (Paul Evans) was at the door, despite bad weather. He fixed the issue with professional competence. He also noticed that annual service was due, that he also completed, without asking me, and issued gas safety certificate. Very satisfied with the service. (While driver was on it's way, got a text giving link to track engineer in real time, so although it took him 3 hours to be here but it gave a lot of support psychologically, that someone is coming).
Customer services are good to make sure if customer is happy, and concentrate on 'After Sales' service in professional manner, and answer all the questions.

Arranged an appointment with a Gas safety engineer from 24/7 Home rescue, the engineer called half an hour before time to let me know he is on his way, upon arrival he done all the necessary checks, logged all his reading on his computer, and gave me a healthy bill. The engineer is knowledgeable in his field, polite and well presented in his uniform. Having used various companies in the past, 24/7 top them all in my opinion.

Gary, the engineer arrived when he said he would, a very pleasant surprise. First time ive had to call in with a problem. I used to use another much larger company, who were never on time, or even on the day they booked me in. Gary quickly found and rectified the problem. He explained to me what it was. No mess, no fuss. I wish everything could go as smoothly as this call out did.
