    Several Plants and bulbs - £150+

    I ordered a variety of plants and bulbs in April - which I received in JULY! The plants were delivered whilst I was out and left on my drive - with no calling card through door from courier. They were not in the best condition, but I persevered, planting them all in compost and adhering to usual rules when planting new plants. Acer pretty much dead and all bulbs came up blind - ALL of them! I could have cancelled the order and got them much cheaper locally had I known they would take so long and be such poor quality.

    I sent photos to Gardening Express complaining, received an acknowledgement that they were looking into it and will be in touch soon.

    And NOTHING!! They closed my complaint, without doing anything, I contacted them 5 days ago complaining they have closed my ticket without even getting back to me - it re-opened (probably as a result of my message) - and it was then closed again 2 days ago!

    I have used them before and never had problems - I will NEVER use them again!

    Ordered my plants on 13th April. They arrived 3 months later, the magnolia tree in terrible condition and apple tree not much better. Have tried to revive it, but almost has no root system. No progress on my 100s of email messages. I receive regular messages trying to sell more but nothing about resolution. I am disgusted by this company. I wish a dissatisfied customer with expertise and time would suggest a group action.

    Order this shrub, which cost £15.95 and all I received was a bent twig. I raised a complaint which was closed, without my agreement, they said the bent twig was alive so no cause to complain. I wish I could upload a photo of the plant as it would give everyone a good laugh. Goodbye Gardening Express, from a good customer.

    You will also see that Chris Bonnet the owner of Gardening Express wrote an article in Horticulture Week during lock down on how he didn't think nurseries should re-ope, well that's not surprising, he was buying all the stock they couldn't sell as they were closed and he was re-selling it online, dead or alive. I can't paste the link here but search ' Opinion: Gardening Express's Chris Bonnett opposes garden centre opening during coronavirus crisis ' So he rallied to keep nurseries closed (and for people presumably to lose their jobs and their companies due to Covid) so he could buy their cheap plants when they were desperate for money, and sell them on at a profit to people who couldn't buy from face to face nurseries. He took on too much, couldn't fulfil orders, didn't stop taking orders no matter what, just kept taking the money and delivering some dead plants to some customers. Others got nothing, or an odd twig, nobody got refunds, he got a whole load of cash, and other honest nurseries lost their businesses. He is now nowhere to be seen, offices closed, chat lines closed, Facebook account as dead as his plants, and is STILL taking money online... He must be abroad or surely he would have been arrested by now if he was doing this in the UK?

    Omg worst Co. In world!!! Stole my money seriously. 4 months no plants no refund. No contact no or email or chat or address. I think this is an offshore scam. If it isn't they will refund the thousands who have paid for dead dying or no plants since Feb. No good ignoring all those people and hoping they will go away. No way to contact GE at all. What does that say? But I know they spend time looking at reviews rather than sorting out problems. GE if u r reading this have some morals and refund customers whose money you have stolen. You are terrible. Terrible. Can you sleep at night????

    My ticket has been deleted again, without giving me a refund, I will open a new one and keep doing so until I get a refund. I ordered in April, when delivery times were stated on my invoice 3-5 days, several weeks later I asked for a refund, as I'd bought plants elsewhere then, they then tried to deliver them after ignoring all 12 of my messages insisting on a refund. I sent the plants back before they even reached me as I had contacted them weeks before to cancel and ask for a refund. Then sent more messages. Still being ignored, still no refund. I think what they are doing is focusing on trying to get their current orders better, so they get some good feedback, and can filter them and post the good ones on review sites (trustpilot). But in doing so they are ignoring the hundreds, maybe even thousands, of customers form the past 4 months who have still not had any contact or any refunds. They are just hoping eventually we will go away and they won't have to refund us - their hope is we give up and go away - I won't go away until I have my refund. GE, rather than concentrating on NEW business why not sort out your existing customers first? If more people posted reviews saying that they had been given refunds, then the potential new customers may feel more inclined to take a chance. Your attitude is full of short-termism. We don't want to know on your website that you are 'ready for a second wave' we care about you sorting out the chaos from the first wave, and the total exploitation of COVID that your company displayed during that time. Take off your blinkers, stop taking new orders and sort out the thousands of customers still very unhappy, once you have done THAT then maybe you can focus on getting new customers and your reviews will improve genuinely - you are your own worst enemy. I have started a charge back and gone to small claims. I have been asked for evidence and luckily I saved all the ticket info before they deleted them! I wonder if they are deleting tickets so people have no evidence to take to court? My advise would be to copy any comms now for when you need it, like me. To be fair, once I get a refund I will update my reviews saying that, but I must have wasted days and days of time on this over the past 6 months. It's like dealing with a company in a 1950s developing country where there are just no rules and everybody can get away with corruption and just doing what they like!

    I see on Facebook that Bonnett's Gardening Village is planning to reopen in the next week. I think the only way I am ever going to get my money back is to go over there in person, which I WILL do. They give me no choice. I would like to meet Mr Bonnett face to face and tell him exactly what I think. I will also be charging for my time and petrol. I'd suggest others do the same, they leave us no choice as they refuse to communicate in any other way.

    Well thank goodness I don't have to traipse all the way to Essex for a refund. I got my refund yesterday after 4 months of trying, plus interest. Horah!! Now I can let this horrible experience go. good luck to others in getting refund, maybe they are getting around to them now and things may improve in future..

    I have got my refund now, so maybe they are working through them and getting somewhere. I ordered in May and got the refund yesterday so hopefully if you ordered around then your refund may be on its way, assuming you have a genuine case and evidence. Good luck!

    SAMBUCUS NIGRA BLACK BEAUTY + LAVENDER

    Dying/ dead twigs in a broken pot arrived in a badly damaged box over a month ago. Since them I have sent numerous polite emails to Ashley via their "ticket" communication .. but NO response. A "higher authority" was mentioned WHY? I sent a clear photo of box and plant there can be no dispute this plant was badly looked after and dead on arrival. You can't speak to a real person.
    This is most definitely the worst company out there with no conscience and believes they can get away with stealing customers money. Stay away it's money down the drain.

    I am writing to you to raise an issue about: Shopping

    The issue that I have experienced was: I placed an order on 24th April 2020, I received 2/3’s of the order 3 months later, 2 of the plants where nearly dead and 5 months later we still have not received the last 1/3. I have raised over 20 tickets on the website and only 3 or so have been responded to. All others have been closed with no response. The other 3 responded to where not resolved.

    It occurred on: 23/04/2020

    This meant that Paying £243 for plants in very poor condition and renaming order not received with contact impossible or at least a response with a resolution has upset me and my wife hugely. We don’t have a lot of money and this was a big outlay. We pretty much ate left with nothing.

    Refund the damaged items we sent pictures of, refund the items not received. I would have accepted replacements of the dead plants and ship out the remaining order, but waiting 5 months has gone beyond that option.

    I look forward to your prompt response on this matter. As recommended by Trading Standards, I would like to keep a complete record of my case, so please reply to this email address.

    1.5m Dwarf Lilac Tree

    Ordered twice from this company but several years apart.
    Zero customer service both times; Both orders were for, what they were selling as ;established shrubs.
    Both orders arrived in a very poor state and it was clear that they the plants hadn’t been looked after whilst they were maturing. Not only were they poorly but they had hardly any leaves in them (both bought in season) and looked like someone had dumped twigs in a pot and added a bit of soil. The packaging was below standard - pots were in carrier bags and then put in boxes which were too big for the plant so there was movement and therefore damage in transit resulting in snapped twigs.

    I ordered plants in April they arrived…
    I ordered plants in April they arrived 10 weeks later badly damaged i then submitted a ticket with photographic proof and then waited and waited and waited and waited ( can you see the pattern forming )
    And then finally received the confirmation that the matter had been resolved and the ticket closed
    I have not received any refund or replacement plants or any explanation whatsoever these fraudsters are the worst kind of oxygen thief's ever to have walked the earth and i would urge anyone thinking of doing business with GARDENING EXPRESS to take their custom elsewhere
    I did read the reviews for these charlatans but thought they can't be that bad and maybe I'll be ok as a few people have had no problems ( probably family members and workers )
    Please don't make the same mistake as I and many others have

    Dwarf Apricot Tree

    After waiting over 2 extra weeks, my fruit tree arrived. The delivery box was very damaged and when I opened the box, the tree was badly damaged. The smaller branches had broke off and the larger ones were hanging off. Two of the branches were dead (already wooded). Immediately I raised a ticket attaching numerous photographs. 22nd of august. 2 days later i got reply saying it was awaiting review by the Horticultural Manager. 9 days later NOTHING. This manager must be very busy replying to all the complaints. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't buy anything from this company. Shocking customer service. Corona Virus is not an excuse. They took my £36. Day light robbery.

    Hydrangea, Geranium and Red Abyssinian Bannana

    I received a dead geranium, a hydrangea with 2 leaves and didn't get a Red Abyssinian banana plant. There is no phone number, no e-mail address and a complaints ticket system that get cleared with no resolution. I don't understand why Trading Standards allow this company to trade. Please be warned you are better off giving your money to charity.

    Three plants

    It is said that the definition of a fool is someone who does not learn by his or her mistakes. It also says that a fool and his money are easily parted. I therefore have to put my hand up to being a fool. There have been a number times when I have done things and bought things without looking at the reviews, 3 different hotel stays instantly spring to mind, each one would have made Fawlty Towers look like the Ritz. Unfortunately, fool that I am, I did not look at the reviews for Garden Express before spending £124.93 on three very poor quality plants, oh dear!

    I have three large empty ceramic pots and wanted to quickly (sic) fill them with some established, fairly mature plants before the end of the summer. Garden Express was offering £10 off orders. I spent some time doing a bit of research on their website (not looking at reviews) and was seduced by their description of the hard work of Chris Bonnett, the ‘company’, their ethos and mission statement with phrases like:

    ‘… the business has become a force to be reckoned with in mail order Gardening’
    ‘…we now ship thousands of plants every week’
    ‘Everything we sell is guaranteed - we don't send out anything we would not be delighted to receive ourselves’
    ‘…we tell you exactly how large or small they are. We were fed up of ordering expensive plants and being sent spindly twigs’

    Mitigation for making the decisions I did? I don’t think so; I am old enough (but not wiser) to know better! The irony of these statements, for me personally, is brought into sharp focus when I consider the atrocious quality of the plants I received.
    Here is part of the email I sent to Garden Express within hours of receiving my plants:

    This is my first foray into ordering plants online and I am disappointed with the quality of the plants that I have been sent; there is little resemblance to the description on your website. I understand there have been issues due to Covid 19 and maybe to some extent the recent hot weather, but I feel that I have been sent the 'runts' of the 'carefully selected plants'. They are not of the standard I would select myself:
    Hibiscus - Described as: Extra Large Tricolour 5 - 5.5 feet as you can see from the photos it is barely 4 feet 4 inches; I could have bought one this size for £29.99 from a different website! The plant does look healthy but some of the bark on the stem has been scraped off (photo) not sure if this will affect the plant.
    Corkscrew Hazel - Described as: Fresh green foliage through out the year. The photos show that it is not very healthy, all the leaves are curled and yellowing some with brown edges. The pot was crumpled as it was forced in to the same box as the Korean lilac.
    Dwarf Korean Lilac - Described as: with a bushy head on a stem.... covered with buds and blooms in season, second part of the season being August - September. As you can see from the photos it is straggly with not a bud in sight.
    I paid a lot of money for these 3 plants; more money than I have ever paid for three plants, which makes my disappointment even greater. Based on your descriptions I expected great plants that I would be able to put straight into 3 large pots. None of the plants came with any planting or care information.

    I uploaded 10 photos to support my claims.
    I received an email from Garden Express that essentially said

    ‘This ticket is now awaiting review from our Horticultural Manager’

    Five working days later I emailed Garden Express to find out where I was with a resolution. No reply, in fact I have not heard anything since. I have emailed on numerous occasions, they have now blocked my email address. Nobody answers the one phone number I can find.

    It was then I read the reviews, oh dear! 48% giving 1 star and such scathing (deservedly) comments you would not believe. I am not sure how this company is still trading. The comments I have read are real expressions of the misery this company is causing to so many people.

    I don’t hold out much hope for a resolution to my plight; or at least not anytime soon.

    I have just seen this on the side panel of Trust Pilot feedback page:

    Gardening Express is 194 out of 194 ranked companies in the category Garden centre on Trustpilot.

    All of this makes an absolute mockery of the flowery (pun intended) descriptions on the their website.

    Please don’t be a fool like me and buy from this company. I would urge anybody who have had poor experiences with garden Express to complete a Money Saving Expert (MSE) Resolver form and if ever the BBC bring back Watchdog then contact them with your story as I will do.
