What a difference experience makes...
Three-way valve and controller replaced very professionally, swiftly, and with no mess, by a very knowledgeable and polite senior 24/7 technician who confirmed that the valve and its controller should have been replaced many years earlier.
Annual service also undertaken at this visit, again highlighting the shortcomings of the previous servicing carried out by the more junior technicians.
Valve and controller had been a perennial 'weakest link' in the system; previous visits by more junior 24/7 and BG technicians only replaced the controller when it was clear that the controller motor was working too hard (then overheating) to open the valve.
In terms of value for money, the 24/7 offering is far superior to BG Homecare. So much so that I've moved my parents from BG to 24/7, saving them hundreds of pounds a year.
Review would have been 5* but for the actions of the more junior technicians who didn't undertake simple checks of the valve's operation and relied on what they believed to be the simple, quick expedient of a new controller.
