We paid nearly £700 to hire a Volvo XC90 'or equivalent' for a trip to Scotland. When we arrived to collect it, we were fobbed off with a B-segment estate car with a 1.3-litre engine.
The manager at Congleton said the error was because they were the same insurance group. The XC90 starts at group 37, this car was group 24. Then without prompting, he told my wife 'this isn't a scam to pocket the difference', which was an odd thing to say.
The manager promised to give us a 'big discount' when we returned from Scotland, but surprisingly he wasn't available and he hadn't told his junior manager about the conversation. The junior manager then said he would try phoning his area manager, but he told us he was 'busy'. Later he told us his area manager 'doesn't work weekends' so it was odd that he even tried.
We still haven't received a promised 50% refund, which would still leave us having paid vastly over the odds for a very basic car.
We feel very let down by Enterprise. I would avoid them at all costs.
