Indoor infrared heater
I purchased an indoor infra red heater in Klarstein’s sale for a new build office/cinema room. It was advertised as indoor and pictures on Klarstein’s website showed it in lounges and conservatories. When my electrician came to fit it the instructions stated it had to be mounted with 2.2m clearance from the ground and 0.5m clearance from the ceiling, so only suitable for rooms with ceiling heights of 3 metres or more. This was not stated on the website.
The electrican also advised that this type of infra red heater is unsuitable for use in rooms with electronic equipment (tv, laptop, phone etc) as the infrared rays “fry” sensitive electronics. The supplier of my 65” OLED TV confirmed that if I fitted the tv in the same room as this type of infra red heater this would invalidate the guarantee.
Klarstein refused to refund, or even exchange the heater, stating only that it was not defective and my complaint was raised just outside their 14-day “cooling off period”. They refuse to address my argument that the item is not fit for the purpose for which it is advertised on their website which is a breach of the UK Consumer Rights Act.
I have tried to commence legal proceedings and FIVE TIMES I have requested a UK address for service of legal documents, or confirmation that they will accept service by email, and they have refused my requests. They know I cannot serve legal documents at their Berlin address and service by email is only allowed with prior consent.
They are a German company with total disregard for UK consumer law.
