Car insurance increase
I've just had my car insurance go up a lot, even though I've never made a claim. So I looked around and found that other insurance companies were way cheaper. But the worst bit was trying to get hold of them - phoning and emailing just didn't work. When I finally got through, they said they'd sort it out by making a complaint, but it's been two months and nothing has happened. All in all, dealing with this company has been a real pain and a let down.
Car insurance policy purchase
I bought a car insurance policy recently and was really let down to see that the Policy Booklet didn't have the right info about European cover. I waited on hold for ages and finally got through to a customer support person who said the booklet I had was old. They gave me the new wording, but the whole thing was so annoying. Customers shouldn't have to make sure policies are up to date.
Household insurance
When trying to make a claim on my household policy when my car was stolen (I was claiming for equipment in the car), I was told that, as there was no evidence of the car being broken in to (e.g. no broken glass), the claim was declined on that basis. When I pointed out that (and complained) that this is not reasonable, they have subsequently issued an apology. However, they are now declining the claim on the basis that the goods are not covered despite the fact that my schedule specifically says I have coverage for goods in a locked motor vehicle. This is exactly the type of response that gives insurance companies a bad name. They are quite clearly using any excuse they can to decline the claim.
