I was really let down by our recent weekend stay at Pure Leisure. We had booked a lodge for a 3-night stay, but when we got there, it was not at all what we were expecting. We thought we would be staying on the main site with a lovely view of the lake, but we ended up being sent to a caravan off-site. The lodge we had paid for was definitely not worth the money, especially since it wasn't as advertised on the website. They didn't mention that some lodges were on the other side of a busy road and you had to walk 2 minutes to get to them.
Camping equipment
I absolutely love camping, so my parents decided to buy me some new camping gear from this place. Let me tell you, it was a total disaster! The stuff they sent us was all broken and looked like it had been dug out from the bottom of a skip. The tent was full of holes and the sleeping bag was covered in dirt. It was as if they didn't even care about their customers at all! And their customer service was a complete joke - it was absolutely awful. They were so rude and unhelpful, like they couldn't even be bothered to help. I will never shop there again, and I hope nobody else does either!
Booking deferred due to COVID
My time with this company has been terrible. I had to push back my booking for 2 years because of COVID, and even though I understood and accepted it, when I called just 3 days before my new booking date to explain that my wife was very poorly with cancer and had broken her hip, making it impossible to travel, their response was heartless. They didn't show any sympathy or support, just offered to extend my booking by a mere week. It was obvious that money was their main concern, not the welfare of their customers.
Holiday home
I strongly advise against buying a holiday home from this company. The prices are way too high, and you won't get much money back if you try to sell. The ground rent keeps going up for no good reason, and they don't bother improving anything on the site. They charge full price for gas and don't give any discounts. The management doesn't do basic maintenance like cutting trees, making it dangerous for people who live there. They don't put sand on the roads in winter, which is risky. It's hard to talk to the management, they ignore emails. But the new owners seem to be doing a lot to make things better quickly. They're working hard to improve things for the people who live there. If you want to buy a holiday home to rent out, be ready to give a big chunk of your money to the management. They take booking fees, a cut of your earnings, and charge for cleaning. They make you do all transactions through them, and you still have to pay for damages. They haven't been very fair to their workers either, like when they sold a site without telling long-time staff. Take care and check reviews carefully before you decide.
