I totally agree with all those negative reviews about platinum cardholders. Why should you have to fork out extra for a service that's just not up to scratch? And don't even get me started on the whole double billing fiasco with car rental companies – I provided all the evidence, but they still had the nerve to say I was in the wrong. It's a total nightmare!
Gold reward card suspension
I've been using my Gold reward card from them for ages. And then out of nowhere, they suspended it without even telling me why! I always pay on time and never had problems before, so it's really unfair. I called them up and they said my account will be closed, but they won't give me a reason! I'm still waiting for more information, it's been forever!
Corporate card application
I applied for a corporate card with American Express not long ago and chose the express service, thinking I would get the card in 5 days. But it's been nearly 3 weeks now, and even after ringing customer service three times, I still don't have it. The person I spoke to today said I would have to wait another 2 weeks, making it 5 weeks in total. That's way longer than they initially said, and honestly, it's really annoying and disappointing.
Business account closure
I had a really frustrating experience with my business accounts recently. I got an email asking for more documents, which I sent straight away. But then weeks later, I was told my accounts were being closed because of lower profits or not providing the docs, which weren't accurate as I had been very careful to give all needed info. The real reason for the closure turned out to be because my husband's personal account was cancelled, which somehow led the bank staff to make wrong assumptions. This kind of behaviour is unfair and totally not on.
Disputed charge on broken item
So after using American Express for about forty years, I've made the decision to chuck both my cards in the bin because of a shocking experience. I had an issue with a dodgy purchase on eBay, tried to sort it out, and was just met with uselessness and annoyance from American Express. Even though I gave them all the info they needed loads of times over the phone, by email, and in letters, they still asked for the same thing again. It's just not on to be so sloppy and unhelpful after all this time as a loyal customer. I'm taking my custom elsewhere and I reckon others should do the same if they don't want the hassle of dealing with American Express.
Booking flight with credit
I booked a flight using my credit card on this website but they charged me more than the airline itself! It's a rip-off and I felt scammed because I could have saved money if I booked directly with the airline. It's just not fair.

American Express credit card is one card I have come to like a lot as someone who does international payments often. I would say aside the fact that today there are many credit/debit cards issued to holders for international transactions, I still prefer American Express card over others for a variety of reasons. While I have also tried out other cards, unfortunately, that feeling of being unsafe was always there, suspecting the company securing the card could be hacked any time. On the contrary, I have had no such fears about American Express knowing how long the company has been in the business and since I started using American Express card, I have no issue of fraud or related complaints. Surely a safe card to use.
