Half a good idea, half a faff

double-check choices and expect some back-and-forth. My wish for them is simple — sort the QA and steady the tech so people get what they order without the carry-on. I’m glad they tried to make it right, and I want the idea to work, I really do, but there’s still work to be done.

I cancelled — the concept is clever but the reality was inconsistent, and I’m actually relieved I didn’t keep paying for it. A few things arrived fine, and that’s why I gave it a go, but overall the experience just didn’t add up. Packaging was lazy (everything shoved into a plastic sleeve, no notes, no receipts) and several items were creased, some jumpers looked shrunk and one piece was clearly damaged and shouldn’t have been sent out. Delivery also took ages — and annoyingly your rental month starts from the order date, not delivery, so you end up with less time to wear things. There was zero clear guidance on how returns work; no labels, no instructions, nothing. I reached out to support a few times and got polite but templated replies — same lines, same copy-paste, and when I asked directly whether this was going to be the ongoing standard they quietly ignored that specific question. That was the final straw. I’ve cancelled and I’m posting this partly to warn others, partly in the hope the company actually listens. If you’re tempted, try it once but photograph everything on arrival and be prepared for slow replies. And to the team: if multiple customers flag the same problems, please don’t shrug — fix the packing and the quality checks, that would save a lot of disappointment. Despite the hassle I’m glad I tried it — could have been worse — but I won’t be renewing.

    Half-good idea, half-frustration

when items were damaged they did replace them quickly, which was a welcome surprise and actually felt handled properly. But alongside that were repeat problems that made the whole thing a bit of a slog. Boxes arriving with knocked-about packaging — two out of three came in battered — and some clothes needed a wash straight away because they were a bit grubby. Not ideal. The real headache, though, was the wait for a new box. On average it felt like two weeks or more between ordering a swap and getting it, so if you’re paying up to £99 a month you can spend half of that time without access to anything new. I kept getting the same “busy period” message every month, which quickly stopped being comforting and just felt like the same excuse replayed. The website also had glitches: price tags that wouldn’t update if I wanted to buy something, and stock levels that weren’t reliable. I was midway through cancelling and trying to buy a few pieces; they said the system would be fixed, I waited, it wasn’t. When I tried to return a box and keep a couple of items, they charged me for an extra month and wouldn’t refund the £99 even though the delay was down to their system not being updated — I’ve asked them to reconsider and offered to pay just for the overdue days as a compromise, still waiting on that. Little things add up too: favourites that are out of stock with no alert when they come back, and no easy way to filter wishlists by availability — that would help loads. So yeah, I like the concept and there were bright spots (fast replacements, staff polite when they did engage), but the operational side needs sorting. If you’re considering a subscription now, I’d be cautious; tell a friend — like I did — but maybe wait until they’ve ironed out the delivery and site issues. I really hope they do, because there aren’t many services like this in the UK and it could be good if fixed.

First impressions, then the small annoyances

I wasn’t expecting to fall for it straight away. I first saw the box set-up on Instagram after a friend tagged me. She was raving about how nice everything felt, so I signed up out of curiosity and because my husband needed a few basics too — we share a plan now. The clothes themselves are lovely. Really. The fabric feels good on, the cuts are modern without being try-hard, and the colours wash well. It’s the kind of stuff you actually reach for in the morning. Simple, comfy, does what it says. I like how quick a garment can freshen up an outfit, and swapping things in and out is quite practical once you get the hang of it. Using the service is mostly straightforward. The app and the website are alright, easy enough to pick sizes and set delivery days. But that’s where my mixed feelings start. I had a few niggles from the beginning. Sizes for men seemed scarce sometimes, which was annoying — we had to compromise a bit on fit more than once. Then the deliveries started being a bit all over the place. First package arrived inside five days. Fine. The next one took six. Then one took nine. Not massive gaps, but it messes with the rhythm of swapping items, especially when you’re juggling returns and new arrivals. I tried to ask about that and a few other small things — like why my card was charged before the posted delivery dates, and why a missing garment from the first parcel hadn’t shown up as promised. I sent an email asking for a quick phone call because, honestly, talking is faster for me. They replied saying they couldn’t call. No number to ring either. That’s when my scepticism crept in. In the end I cancelled because I couldn’t get clarity, and the returns policy felt a bit stingy at that point — they wanted the clothes back by the original payment date and told me to drop them at DPD, no pick-up, no grace period. That felt like poor handling of a simple customer question. Still, I’d recommend it for the product side if you’re after comfortable, decent-looking wardrobe additions. Just go in knowing the service might test your patience a little. I’d come back if those bits were sorted.

    A bit of a one-step-forward, two-steps-back situation

the clothes themselves, at first, did the job. The first box took a couple of weeks to arrive (I wasn’t thrilled, but I was new to it so I let it pass), and I only ended up having it for three weeks because I had to return it around the billing date. Even so, when I pulled the pieces out — a smart blazer that actually sat well on my shoulders, trousers that weren’t too generous in the leg — I remember the moment sitting at my kitchen table with a mug of tea thinking, this is worth it. I wore one of the outfits to work and got a proper compliment from a colleague; small thing but it was the exact second I felt satisfied and thought, yeah, this subscription could be my lazy-saver for the next few months. I bought a couple of pieces from that first box and they charged me straight away for the ones I kept, which felt efficient and normal.
The second box arrived with a bit of faff — the collection and delivery took a couple of goes to sort, but again the clothes were decent and I liked a few items enough to keep them. So at that point I was mildly enthusiastic. I liked not having to spend an entire weekend shopping; that was the whole point for me as a busy teacher who doesn’t get to pop to shops midday. But then things started to go wrong and not in tiny ways, in the sort of administrative ways that eat up your evenings.
By late February I’d packed up the second box as instructed and left it outside my flat, expecting a pickup and an email saying my March box was on its way. Time kept sliding by with nothing. The website status just sat there saying ‘not fulfilled’ or something equally vague, and my packed box was still by the door. I emailed in a couple of weeks asking what was going on, pointing out I hadn’t had a new box and was closing in on the billing date. I made it clear that I was happy to get the March items in April instead as long as I wasn’t charged for March — seemed reasonable. The reply said they were having processing issues and that the new box would be shipped soon. Two weeks later, still nothing.
What annoyed me more than the delay was how they handled refunds and returns. They told me I couldn’t get a full refund because I still technically “had” the previous box — even though it was packed and waiting for them to collect, and I hadn’t used it since I’d boxed it up. The policy, as they applied it, basically forces you to send the box back before you can pause a subscription; you can’t pause a payment first and send it later. That felt odd and unfair. I was told — rather abruptly — that if I posted it back by the 28th I might get a refund, otherwise I’d be charged. Except the only link for a return label that I needed never arrived properly in my inbox. I kept getting emails telling me to complete a return label that wasn’t attached, then when I asked for help I got terse, patronising replies. By the time they admitted they hadn’t sent the link and actually sent it, it was the afternoon of the 28th and they insisted I post the parcel the same day or no refund. I’m a teacher; I don’t have the flexibility to dash to the post office midweek in the daytime. I could do it at the weekend if I was lucky. The whole point of trusting a service like this was supposed to be that I wouldn’t have to spend an evening lugging a big box around in the rain.
They said they’d reimburse postage once I had proof, but I had to pay first and then prove it. That’s a faff, and it costs money up front. Meanwhile, their system still tried to take the £99 charge for March even though I’d not received a replacement box and had told them about the issue. There was no clear statement of what, if anything, they were refunding me for March — just vague lines about partial refunds and policies. Every step felt like pulling teeth: minimal information, slow replies, contradictory instructions. The whole saga ate into several evenings and phone calls, and in the end it was more hassle than it would have been to do an afternoon of online shopping and actually own what I needed.
I’ll say again: the idea is good. When it works, it absolutely works — that first proper outfit and the compliment at work convinced me. The clothes themselves rival a decent high-street pick and saved me time initially. But the logistics and customer support are the weak link. The way they kept taking payments without sorting out deliveries, and the way they handled returns and refunds (or didn’t) felt careless at best and exploitative at worst. It’s the difference between a clever service that saves you time and an unintentional scam where they’re happy to take your money and hope you don’t chase them. I’m left feeling disappointed: I enjoyed the product once or twice and would have been happy to continue if the back-end wasn’t such a mess. If they sort the admin and stop relying on customers to fight for what they’re owed, I’d happily give them another shot. For now, though, I’d say be cautious — the clothes might be handy, but make sure you can tolerate a possible headache on the customer-service side.

    Shoes and clothing

I'm feeling really let down by the recent purchase I made at this shop. I've been waiting for my order for 9 days and haven't heard anything from them about where it is. I've tried to get in touch by email and live chat but haven't received any replies. It's really disappointing to experience this lack of communication and poor customer service.

    Monthly subscription box

My experience with the monthly subscription box has been pretty disappointing. I had to wait 10 days for my first box to arrive, and that was only because I had to keep checking on it. The items in the box were okay, but not really worth the hassle of waiting so long. I recently found out that the renewal date depends on when you place your order, so the delay in sending out the items means I have less time to enjoy them each month. I'm going to take the advice of other customers and make sure to send back my items promptly to cancel on time. The responses from customer service weren't helpful at all and just left me confused. Overall, the whole experience has been weird and unsatisfying. I wouldn't recommend this service and I'm counting down the days until I can cancel my subscription.

    Clothing items

I recently ordered some clothes from this company and I have to say, the experience wasn't great. At first, everything seemed fine with the order going through smoothly. But then, I waited for three weeks with no updates on my order. When I eventually got in touch with them, they said a machine had broken down and they were waiting for an engineer to come and fix it. After a few more days of waiting, the problem was still there, so I asked for a refund.

    Rental clothes

I had a really bad time with this company. It took more than a week for them to even send out my order, and they didn't bother to explain or apologise for the delay. When my parcel was finally on its way, it got cancelled by the delivery company for some unknown reason and sent back to the sender. And to top it off, the clothes from the parcel were missing, but The Devout still tried to charge me for them, even though they were stolen during delivery. Dealing with their customer service was a nightmare - unhelpful and slow at getting back to me, which made everything even more frustrating. I've asked multiple times for them to close and delete my account, but they just haven't bothered. Overall, it was a really awful experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

    oversized clothing, slow delivery

The customer service at this company is absolutely terrible. It took them ages to reply to my questions about my order, and when they did, they didn't give me any clear answers. From what I've seen in other people's reviews, it seems like I'm not the only one dealing with this problem. It's been a whole week since I placed my order, and my clothes still haven't arrived. But they had no trouble taking my money right away. I got an email saying my items would be sent out "tomorrow", but now it's been 2 days and they're still not here. The communication is really poor and not at all helpful, with my emails often being ignored. I'm starting to wonder what I'm actually paying for here. Their service is so unreliable, it's almost like a scam, and on top of all that, the clothes are way too big for their sizes.

    Wardrobe reset with styling services

The idea of The Devout sounded good at first, and I was really keen to give their styling services a go. I decided to go for their biggest box, which was originally priced at £99, but they had a special offer where it was half price for the first 3 months. The first two boxes I got were great, I even bought a few things I liked. But then things went downhill with the third box. I was told to pack up my second one and wait for the next, but weeks went by with nothing happening. The website didn't change, my February box was sitting by my door, and I had no idea what was going on. When I finally asked for an explanation, all I got were vague responses and excuses about delays. They said I'd only get a 50% refund for the box I never received because they didn't collect it on time. It was a mess of poor communication and frustration, which made me doubt the company and their so-called 'styling services'.

    10 garment plan subscription

I signed up for the 10 item plan for both me and my husband, excited to try out the idea of having a rotating wardrobe. Although there weren't many sizes available for men, I liked the concept and looked forward to getting our deliveries every month. Unfortunately, my happiness was ruined by the poor service I received. I tried to get in touch via email to discuss some problems as it was more convenient for me than making phone calls, but my request was denied. I faced issues like late deliveries, missing clothes, and confusion about billing and delivery dates. It was really annoying to deal with such inconsistency and poor communication from the customer service team, particularly because I wanted to resolve these problems to make my experience better. Even when I decided to cancel, the process was difficult and there wasn't enough time to return items. Overall, I think this service has potential, but they really need to work on their customer service and responsiveness to fix the many issues I had during my subscription.

    Clothes rental

Knowing about the product and services of The Devout pointed to the fact that I don't need to admire a cloth anymore from someone but rent anyone of my choice and wear as I wish. To me, it is really a big relief which encourages spending less in buying fashions but offering opportunity to wear more for less. Also, I don't know about many companies offering these kind of services and even if they are, doing it at very professional level like The Devout does may be in doubt. I'm totally pleased with what I'm getting from The Devout and I can't hesitate to recommend them to others.

About The Devout

In today's world, your appearance says a lot about your personality. The type of clothing you wear communicates to those around you who you are. Clothes are designed for every occasion and should be respected by all. Wearing clothes is primarily a human trait found in all societies. However, the variety and style of clothing worn depend on factors such as gender, body type, social norms, and geographic location.
