Got a gift voucher for Wallis last month and thought I'd use it straightaway. Went to the Harrogate shop first. They wouldn't accept vouchers in store. Odd, because the shop had five of my size on the rails. Online showed none. If it had been online I could have had free delivery to Harrogate, but that wasn't available. Wallis won't refund vouchers either, so the only realistic option was a 60‑mile round trip to York to collect the item. I even suggested sending stock back from the shop to the warehouse and reissuing it against the voucher, but apparently stock only moves one way. Small, pointless hassle. A bit annoying, really.
Refund hassle, not worth it
I wouldn’t recommend buying from them right now — the refund process has been a nightmare. Bought items which turned out to be cheap material, asked for a return and got a QR code that, oddly, didn’t show a tracking number at the bottom like previous returns did. They resent the same useless code. Customer service replies take ages and are of little help. I took the parcel to the post office with the QR and the receipt; they couldn’t process a tracked return and said I’d need to claim through Royal Mail. By the time I heard back I was past the 30-day window so that route was closed. I suspect the QR they issue is faulty. I’ll be escalating this — and honestly, unless you like hassle, avoid it for now.
Nice delivery, rubbish refunds
lots of auto-replies, long silences and a strangely glowing 'Kai' that feels like a bot writing its own fan mail. Getting a refund felt like pushing a boulder uphill; they try to avoid refunds and sometimes add nonsense fees. My tip: keep every email, screenshot your bank, use the Citizens Advice refund template and ask your card provider for a chargeback if needed. Would buy again? Probably not.
Late delivery, but brilliant for my back
I was hunched over boxes in the middle of a move, thinking my back was going to give in, when I realised the lumbar cushion I'd ordered hadn't arrived. I needed it — honestly, my lower back wouldn't have coped without a bit of support. The tracking said it was on its way but then went quiet; courier said it wasn't their fault and suggested I chase Wallis. I tried the shop's messaging and got the usual automated reply, and yes, it took a while before anyone replied properly. That was frustrating, no two ways about it. To be fair, the parcel did turn up eventually and the cushion is brilliant — exactly what I wanted, proper relief. So I'm relieved and pleased, even if the communication could do with improving. Would use them again, just give yourself a cushion of time.
Woke up to a 4am WhatsApp — honestly surreal
I got a message at 4am that actually woke me up, which set the tone for the whole thing. On the plus side both parcels did turn up, and some bits are fine. Downside: my order was charged twice and I never got any proper confirmation emails, just that odd WhatsApp trail. Tried the returns portal and it couldn’t see my order numbers, which was annoying, and when I messaged customer service they kept asking for info I’d already sent — felt like going round in circles. Slightly frustrating but I’m not totally done with them yet; if they sorted refunds properly I’d give them another go. My tip to others: screenshot everything, keep your bank app handy and push for a card refund if needed. Honestly I’m half annoyed, half amused — it’s usable but clunky. Hope they clean up the messaging and refund process soon.
One of those frustrating buys
one dress is actually quite soft and comfortable for lounging, another is a bit clingy and shows every seam, and one colour is completely different in real life (more purple than the navy I picked). Sizes seem inconsistent too, so I had to try everything on and keep only what actually fit. Returns were annoying — a small charge per parcel and then a long wait for the refund. Customer contact was odd at times, messages in the middle of my night and what looked like an automated responder repeating basic details instead of solving things. So, not terrible — I’m wearing one dress a lot — but the whole experience was clunky. Won’t be rushing back, unless they sort the refunds and sizing out.
Wedding shoes saga — not what I pictured
the box arrived without so much as a tiny order confirmation in my inbox. I shrugged, assumed I was being forgetful — wedding brain, you know — and tried the shoes. They looked smart, felt nicely made in places (the insole actually had a bit of cushioning which I didn’t expect), but they were narrow. Like, stubbornly narrow. I kept wiggling my toes, thinking maybe they’d loosen, and then getting a little annoyed that “wide” clearly meant “wide-ish in the brochure”.
I attempted the obvious next steps: log into my account to arrange a return, request a password reset, do the whole online palaver. Nothing. Password reset emails never came (but promotional emails did, reliably, every day — glorious dedication to spam). I tried again and again, because you keep hoping it’s just one of those tech gremlins. The returns FAQ link looped me back to product pages, which felt like being shown the exit but given a map that leads you back into the shop.
At some point I discovered a weird bank reference that finally proved I had actually paid earlier — so two orders later, one pair has been delivered and the other seems to be in limbo. That felt messy. The shoes themselves? Nicely finished, decent sole grip and that cushioning I mentioned, but not the roomy comfort I needed for an all-day event. A pleasant little surprise was that they didn’t rub where my foot bends, so short walks were fine. Long days? Not for me.
I’ve emailed, been told to wait, and I’m still waiting for a coherent way to return everything and get a refund. I don’t want another pair turning up unasked for; I want a functioning account and a straightforward returns process. Simple.A few gems that keep me coming back
I still like Wallis for the smart bits that actually last — and that’s why I still pop in now and then. I’ve liked the label since my twenties and even in my early 60s there are pieces I reach for when I want to look put-together without faff. I use their trousers and smarter tops for work meetings, weekend coffee with friends and the odd family do; the jacket I bought years ago still gets worn. Admittedly some seasons feel a bit same-y and the shops can look sparse, and I do get a bit wistful thinking I could do better as a buyer (I’m trained in design and I can sew), but that’s not the whole story. The quality of those few favourites is what matters to me — they’re simple to mix with other things in my wardrobe, go straight from day to evening and they feel like they’ll hold up. Prices aren’t always the cheapest, true, but I value the styles that actually work for me. So, overall I’m enthusiastic and hopeful — there’s potential there, and when they hit it right I’m really pleased.
Partial order, long wait, some relief eventually
I remember unboxing the smaller parcel and thinking “that's odd” — half my order missing, and that niggling doubt I had before buying (because I'd seen mixed reviews and realised Wallis is linked to Debenhams) immediately kicked in. I had ordered the lot for practical reasons — a couple of work-from-home tops and a dress that actually fits in the wardrobe rotation — so it was annoying rather than catastrophic, but it did add stress while I'm in the final trimester of pregnancy (not the best time for extra admin).
I used the next-day delivery option, paid extra, and only part of the order arrived. I went straight to the live chat because there isn't a phone number, and the chat replies were standard, slow and, frankly, not very helpful. They agreed to refund the missing items but wouldn't refund the delivery charge — which felt like a broken promise, given I didn't get what I paid for on the agreed service level. I returned some items I didn't need after all and posted them back on 2 July; Royal Mail shows they were received on 5 July, so at least the tracking was reliable.
What worried me more was the lack of confirmation or an actual refund notification. I chased on chat a few times and kept getting the same “it will be processed soon” line. That was irritating, and I started a dispute with my credit card provider just to move things on — partly because of the looming card bill and partly because of the stress of late pregnancy. In the end the refund did appear, though it took longer than the website's 14-day guideline and longer than I'd expect. So did my worries fully disappear? Not really; I'm glad the money came back, and the clothes were fine quality, but the process was clunky and could've been handled a lot better. Useful for buying clothes, yes, but be prepared to chase and to tolerate patchy customer service.Complicated Returns
If you don't fancy dealing with a headache, I'd steer clear of this shop. Returning items feels like a jigsaw puzzle without being able to see - bewildering and irritating. Unlike reputable stores such as John Lewis or M&S, where returning items is a breeze, this place offers a completely different experience. Be prepared to visit various locations multiple times just to return one item. And watch out for hidden fees for delivery and returns that will make you feel like you've been conned. Save yourself the trouble and stay away from this place. Take it from me, and shop somewhere else.
Refund query resolved quickly
I had a problem getting a refund sorted, so I dropped an email to customer services to get it sorted. Ronald got back to me really quickly and managed to sort everything out within an hour, which I thought was great. I was really impressed with how Ronald handled everything so efficiently and professionally. Bit of a shame that I had to get in touch with customer services in the first place though.
Online order
I recently bought something from a website because they said they offered free delivery for orders over 70 pounds and free returns. But when I tried to make my purchase, they sent me to another website where I had to pay for delivery and returns. I was really disappointed by this and it made my whole shopping experience pretty frustrating. I've always thought this company was good for quality clothes and great customer service, but now I'm not so sure. Also, the dresses they have now look outdated compared to what they used to have.
Difficult return process
I had such a nightmare trying to return something. The return portal was a total pain because it never accepted my order number. I felt like I was getting passed around just to find out where to send it back. It was so annoying and I still can't even make my own return label. Keeping track of my return and getting my money back quickly feels like it's never going to happen with their system. Needless to say, I won't be using their website again.
Wrong item received, out of stock
I got in touch with the customer services team at this store about my order, and I have to say, I was really impressed with the service I got. The person I spoke to, El, was so helpful and sorted out my problem straight away. I ended up with two right feet in my boot order instead of the right ones, and the correct item was out of stock too. But El didn't waste any time and gave me a refund for my order, even the delivery cost. All in all, I couldn't have asked for better customer service.
Order mix-up
I made a purchase from this store not long ago, but I got the wrong item. Even though it was a bit of a mix-up, I was really impressed with the customer service I received from Leah S and Lauren. They quickly sorted out the problem and gave me a full refund, which even included the delivery charge. I really admire their professionalism and how dedicated they were to fixing the issue fast. Because of this, I would definitely think about shopping at this store again in the future.
Two dress order
Avoid buying from this online shop if you want a hassle-free shopping experience! I used to really like their clothes, but my last purchase was a complete disaster. I ordered two dresses to two different addresses, but they ended up being delivered to the wrong places! When I got in touch with customer service, they were no help at all, and to top it off, the dresses weren't even all from the same shop. It was a nightmare trying to return the dress that was the wrong size because the order numbers were all mixed up. If I wanted clothes from different shops, I would've gone somewhere else! I definitely won't be shopping here again!
Gift certificate not accepted
I got this gift voucher from the store but when I tried to use it, they said I couldn't because they don't accept them anymore since the new owner took over. It's not fair, I think it's against consumer rights.
Two dresses purchased
I bought two dresses from this shop recently, but sadly they didn't fit me well. When I realised this, I quickly tried to return them and get my money back. However, after waiting a fair amount of time without getting my refund, I decided to contact customer services for help. I have to say, I was really impressed with how quickly and professionally they dealt with my email. The customer services team got back to me promptly and gave me a clear idea of when I could expect to get my refund. Their great service really made a difference.
Multiple items that didn't fit, had to return
I bought some stuff from this shop not long ago, but when they arrived, they didn't fit me properly. So, I had to send them back, which was a bit of a pain. Luckily, Jenny from customer service was brilliant! She was really nice, quick to reply, and sorted out the refund super fast. Big thanks to her for treating me with such kindness and for looking after customers so well.
Quick response and efficient service
I was really impressed with how quickly and efficiently Maria from the company responded to my issue. She was incredibly helpful and made sure everything was sorted out promptly. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the service I received and would definitely recommend their customer service.
