    Was braced for bother

    I remember turning the new router on straight after installation — I was braced for trouble but it just worked. Browsing, streaming and large downloads felt snappy, the 200Mb/s is noticeable compared with my old line. Took out the 18‑month £27 plan and that steady price was reassuring. Only real annoyance is the phone queue to customer services, which can be a proper faff, but overall I'm pleased.

Few dropouts and generally steady. The real issues hit when I needed help or when bills arrived. Long waits on the phone, calls dropping. Staff were polite but couldn’t fix anything. Then the monthly charge crept up — more than the contract wording suggested. That nagging doubt I had? It didn’t go away. I’m slightly annoyed, to be honest. If you’re considering them, check your contract closely and monitor your first few invoices.

    Not great, not the worst

    I wouldn’t stick with them, though a few things were sorted after lots of faffing. When I signed up (after thinking it couldn’t be worse than VM02, which was a low bar) it became clear quickly that 1p Broadband is basically a Utility Warehouse franchise — lots of shouting about benefits, but the actual broadband, support and installs are handled by third parties. That means different teams, different phone numbers, opening hours that suit nobody. Over 22 months I had intermittent speeds, promises of minimum guarantees that weren’t met, and a bizarre run of calls where notes weren’t kept and everyone passed the buck. At one point they told me Openreach could attend for £120 — as if. Streaming was hit and miss; sometimes simple apps would buffer, which is annoying. To be fair, after pushing and chasing I did get someone who sorted a couple of issues and credited a bill, so it wasn’t all horrible. Still, I’m actively looking to move as soon as something better appears.

    Halfway to the post office, surprised but relieved

    I booked the switch, had a go‑live date, the transfer happened in the early hours and the new connection kicked in on time. Anyway, the £100 notice was for an “early termination fee” supposedly because of a minimum term that ended a few days after my final payment — which felt odd, given I’d made all 18 payments. I called them straight away (bit of a faff on hold, but not terrible) and after a chat they agreed to rescind it. A few days later the pending payment vanished and the money returned. So, not perfect — that surprise charge is annoying and they need to make that clearer — but credit where it’s due: they sorted it. Customer service could be quicker at the first point of contact, but they didn’t bury me in red tape. I told the mate who recommended them what happened and he appreciated the heads‑up. All in all I’m glad it worked out — reliable broadband, decent delivery of the switch, and friendly enough support once I escalated. Would try them again, just keeping an eye on dates next time.

    Steady internet, messy paperwork — but I’d still recommend

    I started with these lot about a year and a half ago, on a damp Tuesday if I'm honest, and I still remember the slightly excited, slightly wary feeling of plugging the router in for the first time. First impressions were good — easy signup, decent deal (£25 a month then) and calls that felt cheap enough. I was sceptical at first though, because you always are these days, aren’t you? “Too good to be true,” I told myself. Anyway, I stuck with them.

    Fiber broadband

    Fibre broadband purchase

    The fibre broadband service I got turned out to be a huge letdown. I've only had it for 3 days, and I've been dealing with non-stop buffering, along with that annoying blue circle popping up every now and then, along with messages telling me "something went wrong, please try again later." This is definitely not what I signed up for, as I was promised a reliable service. I really should have gone with a different provider like Now Broadband, since I never had these problems when I was with them. In the meantime, I had to resort to tethering my Giffgaff mobile, which gave me a much more stable and dependable connection for several devices for a good 3 weeks without a single drop.

    Moving house internet transfer

    I attempted to move my internet service to my new house, but the person I was chatting with in customer service disappeared after saying they'd be back in a minute. I was told I couldn't transfer my service and needed to cancel it and start a new account. I tried calling the number given several times, but couldn't get through. In the end, I was hit with a £112 cancellation fee. They did give me another number to call, but it didn't seem to be the right one. I'm really let down by the poor customer service and lack of communication.

    Fiber broadband installation

    I had a few hiccups during the installation of my fiber broadband, but Open Reach sorted them out quickly and efficiently. The previous supplier had cut off the feed, but the Open Reach person fixed it in no time. The broadband is doing the job well, with an average download speed of 72.6 Mbps. I know I don't have access to full fibre in my area, so I'm happy with this speed for now. There were a couple of occasions when the broadband seemed to restart in the early hours, but it sorted itself out and hasn't happened again. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the service, although I'm not sure what will happen when BT changes the landline to internet. But for now, I'm pleased with everything.
