    Good idea, shaky follow-up

    battery shows charge, lights come on, but the rotor doesn’t engage. I sent the video and photos as they asked via chat and email, but since that first exchange nearly a month has passed with no proper reply. Weekly follow‑ups get ignored and phone calls either ring out or end up in a pointless queue. I had to buy another mower from elsewhere because the lawn can’t wait. The machine itself seemed fine until it didn’t, so if you’re happy to risk weak warranty support it might be okay for casual use. For me the missing response is the real issue — it hasn’t been resolved and it leaves a bad taste. I’ll update if anything changes, though I’m not expecting miracles.

    Surprise turnaround at the last minute

    the first one turned up with obvious damage and there were ages of vague emails and waiting for the warehouse to reply. I needed a decent mower because I’ve got a dodgy lower back and couldn’t keep stooping with the old one, plus we’d just moved and the garden was a bit of a jungle. What flipped it for me was when a single person at the company took it on properly, chased the van and then the delivery driver spent ten minutes tweaking the blade so it cut straight. That small extra bit of care made the difference — felt like someone actually cared. Communication was clumsy and I sent a few grumpy messages, but once they sorted it the machine was fine and my lawn looks better than I dared hope. I followed the instructions, charged it, fitted it, and nothing. I phoned, no answer; I emailed, no reply. After threatening a chargeback and a public complaint they finally sent a replacement battery — that came quicker than expected, oddly — but even that didn’t solve it. I had a local mechanic who managed to start the machine once, so yes, it ran, but only for one cut. Three days later it wouldn’t start at all. I requested a return and refund and was told that if their workshop could start it they’d charge me for courier and an “inspection”. So I returned it. Two weeks of silence followed; I had to ring pretending to be a new customer before someone bothered to reply. They then emailed saying the mower was in perfect condition and would deduct £66. No surprise, I’m still waiting for the remainder. I’ve had warranties handled properly by other companies before, so this felt especially poor. Overall, poor communication, inconsistent product performance, and frustrating fees — a disappointing experience.

    Not how I pictured my Saturday

So yeah, I reached out to Cheltenham first, pictures and all, hoping for a quick fix. At first they told me their Masport parts portal only goes back to 2016 and they couldn’t help — which I thought was odd, but fair enough, maybe a database limit. Then, after probing a bit more, they said the specific part was no longer available. That was the low point: I stood there imagining lugging a heavier, newer mower into the shed and thinking about how much effort it would be. I’d already half resigned myself to the idea of replacing the whole mower. Not ideal. I mean, I was sceptical of the ‘it’s obsolete’ message straight away, so I decided to do a bit of sleuthing myself. I rang Masport’s UK head office (Claymore) and within an hour, and literally within an hour, they’d identified the exact part number and confirmed it was in stock. That was — honestly — such a relief. It shifted my mood from “oh no” to “hang on, this might be salvageable.” So, positive surprise there: the manufacturer knew the part and could confirm availability. Next step, I hunted for a local dealer and found Garden Machinery (Glos) Ltd in Gloucester city centre. What a breath of fresh air. They had the actual part when I walked in, suggested I bring the old cable in so they could double-check it against what they had, and then, rather wonderfully, found the matching nut and bolt in their workshop because the handle connection had a slightly different fitting now. They didn’t charge me a penny for that little extra — just handed it over and gave straightforward advice about the correct way to fit the cable so it had the right flex and wouldn’t kink. That’s the moment I knew I was actually happy with how this turned out: chatting to someone who looked at the problem, compared the old part, said “this is what you need” and helped make sure I could install it properly without messing my back up. Before that, I’d been sceptical — could I trust a dealer? Would I be told it’s obsolete and upsold? But the Gloucester place just got on with it, no fuss, no nonsense, a bit of human helpfulness that you don’t often get. I wish Cheltenham had been like that — the emails took ages, there was an annoying website mismatch where one part number appeared then another when you clicked to buy, and at one point the parts team seemed to only accept messages, which meant the person on sales had to tell me to e-mail anyway. Small things, but when you’re trying to fix a mower and not buy a new one, they add up. Still, the switch from frustration to real satisfaction — that’s why I’m writing this. If you ever find yourself thinking your old mower is doomed because a dealer says a part is “no longer available,” don’t give up straight away: ask the manufacturer, and try a different local dealer. For me, Masport HQ sorted the part number and Garden Machinery in Gloucester sorted the actual part and the friendly fitting tips — and that made all the difference. So I’ll not be going back to Cheltenham for parts any time soon, but I’m genuinely pleased with how it was resolved. Small repair, big relief.

I’ve had worse experiences with other firms where nothing got fixed, so this was actually better than expected. Overall, a bumpy start but a satisfactory finish — just be prepared to follow up if the wrong model arrives.

    I bought a lawnmower from Mowers Online not too long ago and, unfortunately, things didn't go too well.     STIGA battery substitution

    So, I ordered this Mountfield Battery online, yeah? And when it arrived, can you believe it? It was a STIGA battery! I mean, come on, they didn't even check with me if that was alright to do.     I bought a new lawnmower from this place not long ago, but had to return it. The customer service I got was really terrible.     I'm really disappointed with the poor customer service I got from Mowers Online. It took ages for my order to arrive, like 10 days, and then they sent me an extra mower by mistake. So, I had to use their '90-day money-back form' to tell them about their mess-up. But, they didn't even confirm they got my message.     Broken lawnmower wheel

    I recently bought a lawnmower from this company and, unfortunately, when it arrived, I found that one of the wheels was broken. I got in touch with customer service via email and phone, sending over some photos of the damage. They reassured me that a replacement wheel would be sent out, but it's been more than 2 weeks now and the part still hasn't arrived.

    My lawnmower is currently out of action and I'm really disappointed with the lack of communication from the company. If I don't hear back soon, I'll have to take it up with my credit card company. According to consumer rights, I shouldn't be left in this situation, but here I am with a busted lawnmower that's about as much use as a doorstop.
