    Not brilliant, but the shutters themselves were alright

    my experience was mostly about poor organisation and wasted time, not about the product quality. I placed my first order for a set of white shutters, paid the full amount up front and was told there'd be a 12‑week wait. That felt reasonable at the time, so I went ahead. I was expecting a fitter to come and measure, that was explained, and I was happy to wait. After 12 weeks I got told the shutters hadn’t even been ordered and I’d need to wait another six weeks. No clear explanation, just apologies and the option of a refund — which isn’t much use when you’re trying to match existing shutters. That lack of accountability was the main problem. Fast forward: we needed two more panels to match the first set, so despite my reservations I ordered again and made a point of saying I’d had issues before. I was assured it wouldn’t be a problem, same 12‑week lead time, then a fitting date was arranged for the first week in August. On the morning of the appointment we got an email reminding us the fitters would arrive between 10am and 4pm. We hung around until 1pm, then had to go out with our mildly impatient daughters just to check when they’d actually arrive — they never did, because again the items hadn’t been ordered. It’s hard to overstate how inconvenient it is to prepare rooms, wait in, and then find out it was a clerical mistake. The surprise positive is that when things finally arrived and were installed, the finish and fitting were decent — better than I expected given the rest of the experience. Still, the process felt amateurish and there was no one who took responsibility. If you’re buying matched shutters be cautious: the product can be fine, but the ordering and scheduling need tight attention or you’ll end up waiting and chasing.

    Not what it said on the tin

    nice deep sit, softish cover, looks the part. But it didn’t take long before practical problems started to show, and that’s where the useful life of the sofa really fell apart for us. The cushions feel okay to sit on (though they do slump a bit over time), but the big issue is what’s happening inside them. We discovered mould growing in the inner foam — not just on the surface — even on cushions we hadn’t tried to clean. That was the turning point; once you know mould’s present, you won’t use it without worrying. Following the cleaning instructions on the product page made things worse: when we cleaned as instructed, the fabric developed dark blue/black marks and an odd sparkly black residue transferred to hands and clothing. It’s stubborn to remove. It doesn’t feel like normal staining, more like something coming out of the inner material. Dunelm sent someone to inspect; the first visit suggested a manufacturing fault, then the final report shifted blame to us and the “wrong cleaning methods”. That report also contained odd errors — bits about cleaning garden furniture and other irrelevant stuff — so it didn’t read as a careful technical assessment. Customer care repeatedly referred to the report and wouldn’t engage with the actual details we raised; asking for escalation got us passed around or ignored. We tried the ADR route mentioned in the complaints procedure, only to find Dunelm declined to participate, which makes the whole ADR suggestion pretty hollow. To be fair, the sofa does sit comfortably still, and when it was new the stain resistance seemed plausible; it’s not a total waste in terms of feel. But the internal mould, the way it reacts to the prescribed cleaning, and the customer service handling mean it’s not a product I’d recommend — especially if you need something low maintenance or allergy‑safe. If you want comfort only, maybe fine; if you want reliability and proper aftercare, I’d look elsewhere.

    Recycled Polyester Curtains

    I bought some RECYCLED POLYESTER curtains for my south facing living room the other day and put them up. Each time I come down in the morning, there is a noxious smell of chemicals which is coming from these curtains. I looked up what they are made of and they are recycled polyester. When I did research on the internet about polyester curtains, I found out they give off things like formaldehyde, benzene, etc. The fact that the curtains are hanging on a window that gets extremely hot during the day when it is very sunny only makes the problem worse. I spent £100 for them and have only had them 5 days now and still the smell that they give off is horrible. I'd like to take them back but it's impossible to get in touch with Dunelm either by internet or phone. I phoned them about 10 times and they are always busy. I feel like crying because they weren't cheap and now they are a threat to health. I'd like someone from Dunelm to get in touch. I will never buy polyester curtains again and would like my money back.
    PS: Dunelm wrote to me back and told me to take the curtains in to the store to fight my case completely discounting that the curtains could actually give off toxic chemicals and then he told me to "have a great rest of day." Is this the kind of professional response people want to hear from a national company. The customer advisor completely misses the point that heat will cause the recycled polyester curtains to give off a noxious smell. No admitting that it could be true and it would be investigated - just saying "have a great rest of day". This company doesn't even deserve 1 star.

    Vivalife Carson Deep Sit Stain-Resistant Fabric Corner Sofa

    UPDATE: contacting the CEO or any other team members and they'll either ignore you or refer you to the Customer Care team without ever responding to you personally. The Customer Care team just dismiss everything we say or ask, and didn't know the facts regarding how to clean the sofa as per the video and instructions on the Dunelm product page for the sofa. Michelle from the Customer Care team had to confirm the correct way to clean our sofa after she argued and accused us of not following the guidelines, based on wrong facts and details in the Emmiera report by Russell. Michelle from Customer Care just keeps telling us that she is going along with the wrong information and won't look into it any further or work out a resolution. We have tried taking this issue to West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service ADR scheme as per the Dunelm Complaints procedure. It states that if you are unhappy with the resolution from Dunelm, you can contact ADR... but the catch, if you try - you have to have consent from Dunelm that they'll participate. Dunelm has declined to participate and told us to go to Trading Standards instead.

    Just a heads-up for anyone considering the Carson Deep Sit Vivalife Stain-Resistant Fabric Corner Sofa from Dunelm. We bought it in November 2022 for £1,314.05, and it’s been nothing but trouble. Here’s what we’ve experienced:

    - Mould is growing inside the cushions—even the ones that haven’t been cleaned.
    - Despite being advertised as stain-resistant, the sofa stains and turns blue/black when cleaned according to the provided instructions.
    - There's a strange black glitter-like substance that transfers to skin and is hard to remove.
    - Dunelm sent a technician who initially told us it was a manufacturing fault, but their final report falsely blames us for "using the wrong cleaning methods." The report is full of mistakes, including irrelevant advice about cleaning garden furniture!
    - The sofa cushions are supposed to be water-resistant, but they’ve clearly soaked up moisture, causing the mould—despite us following the instructions and air-drying the cushions.

    We're being accused of mistreating the sofa without any real proof, and we're stuck with a product that doesn't meet the standards of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you're looking for a sofa, I’d steer clear of this one.

    I recently bought some curtains and blinds from that shop and I have to say, I was really disappointed with the quality of the finishing. The material of the curtains was great, but the stitching and overall detail just weren't up to scratch. I read some other reviews and it seems like this is a common problem with the made-to-measure curtains from this store. But I have to give a shout out to Tara from the made-to-measure team. When we took the curtains back because of the shoddy finishing, she sprang into action straight away. She got in touch with senior management and gave us some options to sort things out. Tara's customer service was exceptional, really stood out, and I think she's a real asset to the company. It's just a shame that not all the customer service team members are as dedicated and professional as she is.

    Online bed order mishap

    I recently ordered a king-size bed online and was told it would arrive on June 8th. However, I got a call on June 7th saying they were going to deliver a single bed instead. I explained the problem, and they cancelled the order without telling me beforehand. Now they're saying I have to wait until July 5th for the delivery, but they offered me a Dunelm voucher as compensation for the trouble.

    Large bamboo blind

    I got this massive bamboo blind from the shop, and it took me ages to put it up on my window. But when I eventually lowered it, I noticed that one of the slats was broken! It really annoyed me. I got in touch with customer services, and they said I had to return it to the store. Such a waste of time! Definitely not great customer service.

    Custom blackout curtains purchase

    I bought some made-to-measure blackout curtains not long ago and needed some help with measurements and fabric choices. I went to the shop in Rochdale and was lucky enough to get amazing service from James. He really knew his stuff and gave me some great advice on the best options for what I needed. James was so patient, really paid attention to what I wanted, and went out of his way to help me with my purchase.     Mattress Topper for camper-van

    I popped into the shop in Bury St Edmund's to pick up a Mattress Topper for my camper-van. Reese was so helpful and knew loads, helping me work out which size would fit best for what I needed. He also had some neat ideas, like cutting big bits of foam to get a perfect fit. But then Nick came along and bluntly told me the store was shutting in 20 minutes, making me feel a bit hurried and like my custom didn't matter much.

    My recent trip to the store was absolutely brilliant. The staff there were so friendly and really knew their stuff, they helped me find everything I needed for my home.     Large lampshade purchase

    I bought this big lampshade on sale, thinking it would work for both my ceiling and table lamps. But when it arrived, it was totally wrong for a table lamp - the fitting was all off and it wobbled loads. I gave customer service a ring, and they told me to bring it back to a pick-up store in a bin liner or box.     I had a really disappointing experience with Dunelm recently when I ordered something online. I placed my order on a Tuesday and was told it would be delivered by that Friday. So, I changed my plans to make sure I was at home to get it. But then on Friday afternoon, I got a message from the delivery company saying it wouldn't arrive until the next Monday, when I'd be away on holiday. It was really frustrating and upsetting to have such poor communication and consistency.

    I went shopping for some soft furnishings at this store recently, and I must say I had a really good experience. The staff, especially this guy called Gary, were so helpful and friendly.     Custom curtains with fitting service

    I recently had some curtains custom made and fitted by this company, and I have to say, I am really not happy with the service I received. The curtains themselves were lovely and the price was fair, but the problems came after they were fitted. The fitters they sent did a so-so job, they didn't even polish the rail properly, which made it hard to draw the curtains. To top it off, the end stop fell off not once, but twice in just three months! I reached out to them about it, and they said they would call back after talking to the fitter, but I haven't heard from them since. As a result, I had to climb up a ladder and fix it myself, which isn't easy for a 76-year-old with arthritis. I even had to resort to superglue to try and keep it in place. I paid for a professional service, and that's not what I got. I think they should at least refund me for the fitting. It's all been really disappointing, to be honest.
