Vivalife Carson Deep Sit Stain-Resistant Fabric Corner Sofa
UPDATE: contacting the CEO or any other team members and they'll either ignore you or refer you to the Customer Care team without ever responding to you personally. The Customer Care team just dismiss everything we say or ask, and didn't know the facts regarding how to clean the sofa as per the video and instructions on the Dunelm product page for the sofa. Michelle from the Customer Care team had to confirm the correct way to clean our sofa after she argued and accused us of not following the guidelines, based on wrong facts and details in the Emmiera report by Russell. Michelle from Customer Care just keeps telling us that she is going along with the wrong information and won't look into it any further or work out a resolution. We have tried taking this issue to West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service ADR scheme as per the Dunelm Complaints procedure. It states that if you are unhappy with the resolution from Dunelm, you can contact ADR... but the catch, if you try - you have to have consent from Dunelm that they'll participate. Dunelm has declined to participate and told us to go to Trading Standards instead.
Just a heads-up for anyone considering the Carson Deep Sit Vivalife Stain-Resistant Fabric Corner Sofa from Dunelm. We bought it in November 2022 for £1,314.05, and it’s been nothing but trouble. Here’s what we’ve experienced:
- Mould is growing inside the cushions—even the ones that haven’t been cleaned.
- Despite being advertised as stain-resistant, the sofa stains and turns blue/black when cleaned according to the provided instructions.
- There's a strange black glitter-like substance that transfers to skin and is hard to remove.
- Dunelm sent a technician who initially told us it was a manufacturing fault, but their final report falsely blames us for "using the wrong cleaning methods." The report is full of mistakes, including irrelevant advice about cleaning garden furniture!
- The sofa cushions are supposed to be water-resistant, but they’ve clearly soaked up moisture, causing the mould—despite us following the instructions and air-drying the cushions.
We're being accused of mistreating the sofa without any real proof, and we're stuck with a product that doesn't meet the standards of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you're looking for a sofa, I’d steer clear of this one.Curtains and Blinds
I recently bought some curtains and blinds from that shop and I have to say, I was really disappointed with the quality of the finishing. The material of the curtains was great, but the stitching and overall detail just weren't up to scratch. I read some other reviews and it seems like this is a common problem with the made-to-measure curtains from this store. But I have to give a shout out to Tara from the made-to-measure team. When we took the curtains back because of the shoddy finishing, she sprang into action straight away. She got in touch with senior management and gave us some options to sort things out. Tara's customer service was exceptional, really stood out, and I think she's a real asset to the company. It's just a shame that not all the customer service team members are as dedicated and professional as she is.
Bedding set
I ordered some new bedding online recently. One of the items didn't have any tags on it and seemed like it had been sitting in a dusty old storage room. I'm definitely going to return it. The delivery service was also terrible, the box was completely torn when it got here.
Online bed order mishap
I recently ordered a king-size bed online and was told it would arrive on June 8th. However, I got a call on June 7th saying they were going to deliver a single bed instead. I explained the problem, and they cancelled the order without telling me beforehand. Now they're saying I have to wait until July 5th for the delivery, but they offered me a Dunelm voucher as compensation for the trouble.
Large bamboo blind
I got this massive bamboo blind from the shop, and it took me ages to put it up on my window. But when I eventually lowered it, I noticed that one of the slats was broken! It really annoyed me. I got in touch with customer services, and they said I had to return it to the store. Such a waste of time! Definitely not great customer service.
Custom blackout curtains purchase
I bought some made-to-measure blackout curtains not long ago and needed some help with measurements and fabric choices. I went to the shop in Rochdale and was lucky enough to get amazing service from James. He really knew his stuff and gave me some great advice on the best options for what I needed. James was so patient, really paid attention to what I wanted, and went out of his way to help me with my purchase. The curtains arrived quickly within a week, and I am so happy with how they look and fit. I'm really thankful for James' help and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for similar products.
Lace curtain nets clearance
I bought some lovely lace curtain nets on clearance for my bedroom the other day. The staff member who helped me was really helpful, giving me some great advice and offering them at a brilliant price of 25p to 50p per metre. Their customer service was top-notch, so I'll definitely be going back for more clearance items in the future.
Team Valley store purchase
I went to the Team Valley store in Gateshead the other day and I have to say, the customer service I got was top-notch. The guy called Anthony who helped me out was so nice and really helpful. Even though I had a few things to get and they were about to close, he didn't rush me or anything. It was great.
Home decor items
I've just bought some home decor bits from this shop, and I have to say, I'm really pleased with the bang for my buck. The stuff is top-quality and I've managed to find some real treasures that have given my home a lovely touch. The delivery was really fast, which was a nice surprise. I had to get in touch with customer service about a little hiccup with my order, and they were so helpful in sorting it out quickly and smoothly. All in all, I'm really chuffed with my shopping experience at this store.
Mattress Topper for camper-van
I popped into the shop in Bury St Edmund's to pick up a Mattress Topper for my camper-van. Reese was so helpful and knew loads, helping me work out which size would fit best for what I needed. He also had some neat ideas, like cutting big bits of foam to get a perfect fit. But then Nick came along and bluntly told me the store was shutting in 20 minutes, making me feel a bit hurried and like my custom didn't matter much.
Replacement order organized swiftly
The customer service in this shop is really great. They sorted out a replacement for my broken order really quickly, no fuss at all. I've had to get in touch with customer service twice now, and both times they've been so nice, polite, and super helpful. Other businesses could definitely take a leaf out of this store's book when it comes to looking after their customers.
Home furnishing purchases
My recent trip to the store was absolutely brilliant. The staff there were so friendly and really knew their stuff, they helped me find everything I needed for my home. The stuff I bought is top quality and has made my living space look fantastic. There was such a wide range of items to choose from, it was easy to find exactly what I wanted. The only thing I would say is that the prices were a bit higher than I thought they'd be, but the quality makes it worth it. It would be nice to see some discounts or better prices though. Overall, I'm really happy with what I bought and would definitely recommend this store to anyone in need of some high-quality home furnishings.
Recent purchases of home furnishings
I've been coming back to this shop quite a bit and I must say, the stuff they've got is top-notch. Whether I'm browsing online or in person, there's always plenty to choose from and I've never been let down by anything I've bought. The prices are fair too, especially when you look at what other shops are charging for the same kind of things. All in all, I'm pretty happy with what this store has to offer in terms of quality, variety, and cost.
Large lampshade purchase
I bought this big lampshade on sale, thinking it would work for both my ceiling and table lamps. But when it arrived, it was totally wrong for a table lamp - the fitting was all off and it wobbled loads. I gave customer service a ring, and they told me to bring it back to a pick-up store in a bin liner or box. I was gutted because the product wasn't what I expected and didn't do the job I needed it to do.
Online order disappointment
I had a really disappointing experience with Dunelm recently when I ordered something online. I placed my order on a Tuesday and was told it would be delivered by that Friday. So, I changed my plans to make sure I was at home to get it. But then on Friday afternoon, I got a message from the delivery company saying it wouldn't arrive until the next Monday, when I'd be away on holiday. It was really frustrating and upsetting to have such poor communication and consistency.
Soft furnishings purchase
I went shopping for some soft furnishings at this store recently, and I must say I had a really good experience. The staff, especially this guy called Gary, were so helpful and friendly. Even though they were all busy, Gary made sure to give me a hand and even checked back later to see if I was all sorted. His friendly attitude and great customer service truly stood out. The check-out process was quick and easy, and the staff were nice and helpful the whole time.
Custom curtains with fitting service
I recently had some curtains custom made and fitted by this company, and I have to say, I am really not happy with the service I received. The curtains themselves were lovely and the price was fair, but the problems came after they were fitted. The fitters they sent did a so-so job, they didn't even polish the rail properly, which made it hard to draw the curtains. To top it off, the end stop fell off not once, but twice in just three months! I reached out to them about it, and they said they would call back after talking to the fitter, but I haven't heard from them since. As a result, I had to climb up a ladder and fix it myself, which isn't easy for a 76-year-old with arthritis. I even had to resort to superglue to try and keep it in place. I paid for a professional service, and that's not what I got. I think they should at least refund me for the fitting. It's all been really disappointing, to be honest.
Foam block purchase
I went to the shop to get some foam blocks and thought it would be easy, but it wasn't. I needed help and luckily, Emma helped me out. She was really knowledgeable, understanding, patient, and kind. Emma listened to me and helped me choose the right foam blocks for my project. Because of her, I was able to decide confidently and felt like a valued customer. Emma's customer service went above and beyond and made my shopping trip special.
Plastic storage boxes
I ordered 6 sets of storage boxes and they only sent me 6 individual boxes instead! I was planning to use them for packing up for a move, so you can imagine how irritated I was. I even paid extra for next day delivery, but the boxes arrived two days late. They did agree to refund the postage, but it was quite frustrating.
New bed sheets and curtains
I popped down to Dunelm in Kingston upon Hull the other day to pick up some new bed sheets and curtains. The store was looking really nice, much better than the last time I visited. The staff were super friendly and really helpful, it made me feel like a VIP! They were really knowledgeable and helped me choose the perfect colours to match my room. I felt really valued and appreciated their eye for detail. Massive thanks to the Dunelm staff for making my shopping trip so fantastic!
