    polite staff, clean lobby — then the bombshell: "you haven't paid." Cue three phone calls to the booking site. First couldn't find the booking, second found it and said "no payment needed", third involved a chap called Daniel getting shouty and blaming the hotel. They kept saying they'd phoned the hotel but my phone didn't ring; I even handed it to the receptionist to show them. By the end I had formed a short-lived, intense relationship with my phone. The hotel itself was decent and the receptionist tried to help, but the mess wasn't sorted and it ate half the afternoon.

    Awkward booking and delayed refund

    I actually came across this site because a colleague tipped me about a bargain. Booked in May for a June holiday in southern Italy. A day before check-in they emailed about a "contractual issue" and said my booking didn't exist. They offered a refund or a different room with 15% off. I asked for the refund and sorted a room directly with the hotel. After that support went quiet—no phone pick-up, no replies to emails. The money never appeared. I chased them for weeks. Eventually my card issuer reversed the payment about a month later, so I was relieved. Glad it worked out in the end, but it was unnecessary stress and poor communication. Won't rely on them next time.

    Left hanging at check-in

    mistake, easy fix. Second thought (after waiting at reception): nope. I rang the booking site’s customer service and was told I could check in but into a different type of room — take it or drive home, basically. That was my charming choice. They also asked me to email their head office for “compensation” after the trip, so I did the very next day. Then began a month of chasing emails and calls. Nothing. No replies to head office, no replies to complaints, nada. I phoned the hotline again and was given an email address for another company (BedsOnline) and told to send all my booking details and personal info there. Which felt… off. Why should I pass my info around like a hot potato? It all left a sour, weary feeling — like being extra polite while someone repeatedly moves the goalposts. Honestly, don’t expect prompt help; expect hoops and ghosting.

    Booking mishap

    I had a really bad time with a hotel booking recently using a particular platform. So, I turned up at the hotel in Miami that I booked through this platform, right, and it's 3 am and they're telling me they haven't been paid. I had to pay for another room out of my own pocket for that night. I got in touch with the platform straight away to ask for a refund and I'm hoping to get my money back soon.

    Unhygienic hotel experience, no refund yet

    I was really unhappy with my stay at this hotel recently. As soon as I arrived, I saw lots of bugs and the room wasn't clean. I told the staff about it, but they didn't do anything to sort it out. And to make matters worse, I still haven't been given a refund for my stay, which is just not on.

    I cancelled my rooms and they told me it would take 5-7 days for my money to come back as my credit card number had changed. They said they couldn't update it and now it's been weeks with no refund! They're asking for a picture of my card, can you believe it?

    Refund for hotel cancellation

    I had to cancel my hotel booking in Glasgow and got my money back within 2 days. Also had to cancel a 9-night stay in Japan, got an instant response and the money was back in my account the next day (even though they said it could take 5-20 days). No complaints here, usually people only talk about bad experiences so I wanted to share my good one.

    Booking gone wrong

    I had an absolutely dreadful experience with this company. We were pointed in their direction by another booking site, only to discover that they're impossible to get hold of and extremely unprofessional. When we had to cancel because of the awful weather, we didn't get a refund despite the fact that the hotel didn't receive any money either. It's just not on, it feels like a case for consumer protection.

    Hotel room booking

    I booked a hotel room right away, but then I realised I needed to cancel as soon as possible. Can you believe it? They actually tried to charge me a cancellation fee even though I cancelled almost immediately! I went on the website to cancel, but it's as if my booking didn't even exist. I sent them an email, but I haven't received a reply, and when I called them, I was left on hold for what felt like an eternity.

    Reservation mix-up

    I recently booked 2 DELUXE rooms for 4 adults and 2 children through this website. However, when we got to the hotel, they gave us 2 STANDARD rooms instead. The staff said there was no reservation for the children from the booking company. When I contacted customer service about this, they replied in a different language to the one I used when booking and said I had booked what I got. Even though I had proof that I booked differently, they kept saying I was wrong. My experience with this booking company was really disappointing and I felt like they were trying to trick me. I strongly recommend not booking through them in the future.

    Last-minute hotel switch

    I booked a hotel in Gran Canaria using this website not long ago. But when I got to the hotel, they said my room had been double booked. They told me I had to go to a different hotel 4 miles away and return the next day. After booking 5 months ahead of time, this was really annoying and disheartening. I got in touch with customer service and eventually a nice representative helped me sort everything out in the end.

    Hotel booking experience

    I recently booked a hotel through this website and it was a complete disaster. The customer service was terrible - they were so rude, unhelpful, and just seemed to want to shout at me over the phone instead of helping me with any issues. When I requested confirmation of my booking, the representative didn't even have an email address and kept asking me for it repeatedly. The confirmation email I eventually got was for a completely different hotel and was even sent from an email address of a different company. It was all just a total mess and I definitely won't be using this site again.

    Booking payment issue

    I've just had a really frustrating situation with a hotel booking payment from a third-party website. When I got to the hotel, they told me the room hadn't been paid for, even though the booking platform had already taken the money from my account. I made lots of calls to the company, but each time I got different information and one of their representatives was really unprofessional. The problem still hasn't been sorted out. I wouldn't recommend using this company for hotel bookings because they're not reliable and don't take responsibility for their mistakes.

    Reservation nightmare

    Cancelled holiday, refund delay

    I'm really disappointed with the situation regarding my cancelled holiday with Hotelopia back in June 2020. It's been a long wait for my refund, despite them reaching out to me initially and asking for my email to help. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything back or received my money. The lack of follow-up and communication from Hotelopia has left me feeling let down, and it doesn't reflect well on how they run their business. I've tried reaching out to them through emails and phone calls, but I keep getting cut off or unhelpful responses. As a last resort, I've contacted my credit card provider to try and sort this out. Overall, my whole experience with Hotelopia has been frustrating, and I would suggest that others avoid booking with them if they can.

    Covid booking problem

    So, I booked this hotel and then had to cancel because of Covid, yeah? They were saying, "Don't stress, you'll get your money back in 5 weeks." But I waited and waited, nothing happened. Emailed them, heard nothing, like, what's that about? Suddenly, they wanted my reference number, but still no refund or anything. Ugh, so gutted, I really needed that money back, you get me? But then, after all that waiting, finally got my refund. Took them long enough!

    Reservation issues with Hotelopia

    I booked two reservations with Hotelopia, opting for the free cancellation feature. Unfortunately, even though I didn't get a confirmation, my credit card was still charged for the full amount. When I tried to cancel my bookings, I found that the website was down and I couldn't reach anyone at customer service. It's worrying, especially with everything going on with COVID-19 - you need reliable service providers. I suggest avoiding this agency, as my experience has just been stressful and disappointing.
