a plan works, you use it, job done. Here it was inconsistent. When the service did work, speeds were actually pretty good, unexpectedly so, which is why I hesitated to leave. Still, reliability and clear communication matter more. I’m now looking at alternatives because I can’t risk disappearing data on a trip, even if there were a few moments of decent performance.
Airport doubts turned decisive
25GB allowance, hardly used at home, maybe 0.2% of it abroad each time. I only ever get a few calls or texts from our daughters. I rang customer services to double-check and they basically told me the roaming rules would bite — they said we “use more abroad than at home” so incoming and outgoing calls, texts and any data outside the UK would be chargeable. Even after explaining our usage, nothing changed. Bit of a slog, spoke to a couple of people, no sympathy.
In the end the satisfaction came from doing something about it — I moved all four SIMs elsewhere. So my original skepticism wasn’t unfounded, but I’m relieved now that we’re with a provider that actually matches how we use our phones. Finally fixed — but only after a proper faff
a supervisor finally picked up and sorted it in minutes, and I actually said out loud "about time". Before that, it was days of repeating myself on the phone, being bounced between agents who all gave slightly different answers, and a lot of polite but useless assurances that someone would call me back (they didn't). I bought a SIM on a promo, ported my number over from Vodafone, and the plan never got linked to my number properly — so I was charged full price and couldn't use the international minutes that were supposed to be included. Annoying, yes, but fixable. Trouble was, most of the reps made it feel like it wasn't.
I have had my fair share of customer service nightmares with other providers, so I'm not a stranger to waiting, but this felt different — more bewildering because some agents almost gave up mid-call. I wasn't rude, just persistent, and still ended up having to explain the whole story again every single time. Then one person who knew what they were doing jumped on and resolved it in minutes. That was the turning point: instant relief, a proper explanation and an apology (small, but genuine).
So overall: the network itself seems fine — calls, coverage, all okay — but the front-line support needs work. Training and consistency would make a world of difference. If you value quick, competent help, don't expect it straight away; if you get the right person, it's fine. I'm honestly pleased it's sorted, but a bit miffed about the stress and the charges I had to chase up. Hope they fix the process so others don't have to repeat what I did.Auto-renew surprise, until the refund arrived
do that if you don’t want surprises). Customer service promised a refund and said it would take 24 hours. That didn’t happen. Seven days passed, a couple of calls and emails later, and the refund still wasn’t in my account. By then I was fed up but kept a calm tone on the phone — dry, factual — and insisted on escalation with evidence from my side (screenshots, timestamps).
The moment I knew I was satisfied was surprisingly small and a bit anti‑climactic: when I finally saw the refunded amount land in my account and the confirmation email that the case had been closed. Not a cheer or anything, just relief and a sense that the effort had been worth it. That’s when everything reset for me — I felt the company had at least corrected the mistake. Still, the whole process could have been handled far better and much faster.
If you use this provider: check your app settings, revoke payment authorisations if you prefer to top up manually, and keep records of purchases. It’s fine if their system generally works, but don’t assume automatic means authorised. Slightly annoyed, slightly relieved, and wiser now.Midnight signal blues
different rooms, different phones, a laptop, toggling between 4G and 5G, changing settings, even borrowing a friend’s phone — same story. Outside the house it mostly works, but still freezes intermittently; indoors it’s unreliable. Signal bars swing wildly from one to four while I’m sitting in the same spot, which isn’t confidence-inspiring. Calls cut out or the person on the other end suddenly can’t hear me after a while, so I end up stepping outside in rain, wind or cold to finish a call — not practical. I also couldn’t finish security updates because downloads stall, restart and then fail again; a 1.2GB update once showed an estimated five hours then froze repeatedly. That was wasteful and annoying. Customer support wasn’t much help either — long waits, scripted troubleshooting that didn’t address the core issue, and no clear action plan. They seemed unaware of a persistent coverage problem in my area. On the plus side, when the connection behaves it’s fine for simple browsing, and I can get a decent session in the early hours when traffic is low, so it’s not entirely hopeless. Realistically, though, if you live in a unit, granny flat or townhouse like me and need dependable indoor 5G, be cautious. My advice: test a SIM before committing, try it at different times of day, and don’t assume bonus data equals usable speed. I wanted to like this provider — their prices looked reasonable — but the everyday experience fell short. There’s a chance your place will be fine, but prepare for the possibility you’ll be stepping outside to get a stable connection.
Mobile plan purchase
This phone company is absolutely terrible. They never reply to emails, and because I'm deaf, I can't even ring them up. I cancelled my internet plan, but they're still taking money from me even though I stopped using their SIM card ages ago. They're a dreadful company, don't go near them if you can help it.
New SIM card delay
I've been waiting for more than a month to get my two new SIM cards after moving my numbers from a different company. The numbers have moved but I've had to buy prepaid cards to make calls. Every time I phone up, they promise to send new ones but they still haven't arrived. I'm not happy at all with this poor customer service. I wouldn't rate them very highly.
MSE voucher offer for £40
I received this voucher from MSE for my brother Finn, yeah? When I tried to use it, the email wouldn't open! I called customer service, and they said "sorry, can't help you, it's outsourced to a cloud company." What does that even mean? I told MSE about it because they are total con artists! Also, the service doesn't work abroad and the coverage is terrible.
Data strength issues
I posted a review on that other website because everyone else seems to be raving about it, but I've been having a nightmare with my data signal. It's absolutely terrible! The initial setup was a breeze, but what's the point if I can't even upload a short video without waiting for ages? And let me tell you, the signal drops out completely at random times. It's so annoying! All these networks make big promises but end up delivering a disappointing experience. I just want to be able to use my phone without getting frustrated. Giffgaff is no better, so now I'm at a loss for where to go next!
Slow porting process
It's been an absolute nightmare dealing with this company. I've been waiting for a whole four weeks for my phone to be switched over to their network, and I still can't receive any calls or messages. I've tried getting in touch with their customer service team countless times, but all they do is make empty promises that it will be sorted out soon. After getting really frustrated with the lack of progress, I even went as far as to email the CEO, and only then did I finally get an apology. This company is all talk and no action when it comes to actually fixing customer problems. If you ask me, my advice would be to steer well clear of them.
EU roaming service
I signed up for the EU roaming service, but it's never actually worked. Even though customer service said my settings were right, it still doesn't work. The customer service is absolutely terrible - they can't seem to figure out or solve the problems. It's frustrating to keep paying for a service that I never actually get to use.
SIM card purchase for mobile phone
I bought a SIM card for my phone not long ago and it didn't go well with the customer service. The online chat people said they'd do things but they didn't, and they just ignored my emails. It's really disappointing and not right that they don't keep in touch and sort out problems. I tried to make things better by sending a complaint, but it's been two weeks now and I've heard nothing back. It's not good at all that they're not taking responsibility and not dealing with our problems properly. It's worrying that they're not interested in sorting things out and just avoiding complaints.
Bought sim card and topped up for international calls
I purchased a sim card for just one pound and then topped it up with ten pounds for making international calls. I ended up only using it twice before I couldn't make any more calls. The deal had promised me 100 international minutes, so you can imagine my surprise. But when I tried to get a refund, they simply ignored me and even hung up on me. The service they provide is truly terrible, I definitely wouldn't suggest it to anyone. What an absolute waste of money!
SIM card for mobile phone
As a customer of this company, I feel really let down by the service I've been getting. I've spoken to the customer support team multiple times about my WiFi calling issue, and even though they promised to fix it, nothing has been done. I've been in touch with them every day for a week now and the problem still hasn't been resolved. It's just so frustrating that they haven't followed through on their promises and dealt with my concerns quickly. I expected better from a company with such a good reputation.
EU roaming nightmare
Roaming in the EU with this company is an absolute nightmare! They promised it would work smoothly, but it never does. Their customer service is a joke - they never return calls and make you wait on hold forever. The three of us tried to get it to work in two EU countries, spending hours on the phone with no luck. Their service is just terrible, and their adverts are totally misleading. We switched to a different provider and couldn't be more pleased!
Data connection
I recently got a data plan from this service provider, and I have to say I'm really let down with the data connection. For the last two weeks in Hull, I've been facing weak data connection. Even after trying numerous times to fix it, the issue still remains. It's been a real hassle because I use my data a lot for work and personal stuff. I really hope they sort this out soon because it's not right for a service provider to have such rubbish connectivity.
Transferring to new mobile network
I've recently switched to a new mobile network and it was a really smooth process. The SIM card arrived quickly and their website was really helpful in guiding me through transferring my number. I just followed the instructions, entered my PAC code and temporary number, and picked a date for the switch. I double-checked my mobile data settings like they suggested, and before I knew it, I was all set up on the new network.
Roaming issues
I had some trouble with roaming, just like everyone else. The compensation they offered was absolutely pointless, all I want is a refund for the service that wasn't what they promised. Even though they told me to get in touch with them directly, I bet their customer service won't be able to call me because their sim card is blocking them. Dealing with such bad service is really annoying.
New promotional plan purchase
This company is really terrible in the way they do business. I just bought a new promotion plan and wanted to change my current number over to it. But instead of letting me do that, they tried to make me stay on my old plan just to make more money. Their methods are really deceptive, and they even fooled me into topping up my balance, only to realise that the top-up is only worth half of a regular plan renewal. This kind of dishonesty is just shocking, and I recommend anyone thinking about using this company to choose a different carrier.
My recent mobile plan purchase
I'm not too happy with the mobile plan I got from this provider. They said it uses a certain network, but I keep getting stuck with slow 2G data. Even when I try to pick the network I want, it keeps going back to rubbish 2G when I move around. It makes me wonder if this provider is up to something dodgy. Their customer service hasn't been much help either, just sending messages that don't fix the problem.

Key points to consider when choosing a telecom provider
There are currently so many companies offering telecom services and so many marketing techniques to catch hold of new customers, which makes it harder to see through the many offers and decide which provider to choose. The most relevant thing to keep in mind is that the provider should be a company that aligns best with your needs. Here are three basic qualities to look for when choosing a service provider:
Network reliability - check that the network is a fully converged one with a consolidated infrastructure that includes IP, Ethernet and optical technologies. Network convergence includes the coexistence of video, voice and data communication. Also, security and stability is a main concern, so always check that the network has all the needed protection to prevent service attacks, that it has the ability to restore their services fast with minimum or no impact to your activity and that the systems are constantly updated to offer the latest technology so it avoids performance issues and won’t stall the growth of your business.
Offers and support - check what products and services are provided by the company that best suit your needs. Telecom providers should offer a good amount of customization and options for their products and services that adapt to your specific needs. Some of us need more data, some need more voice, some need faster internet, etc. Make sure you are choosing the best option depending on your activity and that these options also don’t come with unnecessary burdens of services and expenses that you aren’t interested in.
Customer support - make sure they have quality customer support. There are so many occasions in which a client doesn’t get offered the best products or the assistance they need just because the company doesn’t consider the importance of keeping their clients happy and helping them when in need. Customer support should be effective, treat you with respect and have communication skills. This is essential to make sure your experience with your provider turns out to be a positive one.
Considering these main points should help you decide the right telecom provider for your home or business. Another great way to help you decide your network provider is to read customer reviews about these companies. Here are some telecom services that you may want to look into:
